After I got in the car today after work, a car that was 6200 miles old and worked perfectly for all of them, I noticed something odd while leaving the garage... oh wait, the car didn't want to start.

That's right, a brand new car (practically), and all it does is light up all the lights, the radio, makes the fuel gauge go up... pretty much everything starts, except the car. No turnover, just a thin, quiet, whining sound everytime the key was turned all the way on. I tried to check fuses, but remembered that I lost the little white pincers some time ago. So, feeling defeated, I randomly decided to press the brake, move the automatic gated ****er from Park to Neutral, and try and start the car.

Guess what? It started, after cranking hard for about a second.

What in the hell happened tonight? It started three times since then, in the trannies normal position (Park). Any ideas?

 

theirs a recall on the cam sensor and crank sensor. I would call up nissan and telll them

 

Do you have one of those gas station thingamajigs on your key ring? I've read they can sometimes interfere with the chip in your key for the ignition immobilizer.

It happened to me one day when the car was still fairly new. I turned the key, it cranked but wouldn't start. I took the key out, waited a few seconds, tried again, started just fine...

 

No, I don't have anything that could have interferred with the key..

I think that recall might be it.. not really 100% sure though...

 

this happened to my 2k a month back. every once and a while the car wouldnt start. after moving the shifter from park to D or N and back to park it would start. nissan changed my crank sensor and no problems since then. on my work order it was called a npn switch not crank sensor

 

The NPN switch is probably the switch on the shifter that only allows the starter to work in park or neutral - been a feature for about 25 years on autos. Commonly out of adjustment or broken on all makes. The crank sensor wouldn't prevent cranking.

 

well thats the dealerships for you, tell you one thing and do another
