Stripped ring gear... twice?
Stripped ring gear... twice?
About 25-30k miles ago (I can't find the receipt
) I took my 97 max to the stealership to get it fixed. It was making a clunking type noise (ended up being the half shaft(s) walking transverse to the shaft). Anyway I had to replace the ring gear in the trany and dif and ended up resurfacing the fly and getting a new clutch as well. This was done at about 95k miles. All the parts they put in were either nissan remanufactured or oem. Now I am getting the same noise and there is walk in the half shafts again. After paying my bills I have about 50 bucks a week to spend. Poor and pathetic I can not afford another 2k to have it fixed. It is passed the warrantee and they will not fix it for free. I can't imagine that they installed it correctly with the problem reoccurring so suddenly.
I keep getting told this is uncommon. Anyone else have this or a similar problem? If so what did you do to fix it.
I guess I am left with the option of going to a yard, picking up a trany, and installing it myself. I have no idea what else to do being so poor. Anyway any input would be cool even if it is just a half thought out idea. God bless,
dan
