I drive the old maxima daily. Thursday evening the power steering stopped working and made a little noise. I took the pump off this evening and the pulley is stripped out and the shaft is also stripped. Has anybody had much experience with issues like this. How hard will it be to find a pulley?

 

Bought a used pump with a pulley off e bay for $29 and a rebuild kit from rockauto for about 10 bucks and rebuilt the pump. Good as new but could still use a better pulley as the new one is a little warped.

 

I would go online and find a new pulley if you can, but I recommend to get a reman pump since you mention the shaft is stripped, then it can not be rebuild.; but I can see you did buy a used pump and a rebuild kit, is a good route to go since you know it's done correctly by doing it yourself. Finding a pulley can be a challenge for a 30+ yr old car.

 

Just randomly throwing this out there, but on my 4th gen an SR20 power steering pulley fit perfect.
