IMO opinion a stock Maxima has a very smooth ride. Once you add aftermarket performance struts and springs that all changes. I would check to see it has aftermarket supension on it first.

Gas pedal should be smooth without any hesitation or lag. You may want to start the car, open the hood and push your throtle cable to see if it getting caught up.

The throttle cable runs parallel to the opening to your intake manifold. Where the your intake and intake manifold met it is a cable which sits on the front side of the throttle body.

If you are unsure hwere it is, go and get yourself a Haynes mahual.

In the Haynes manual you will find some troubleshooting tips to diagnose the problem.

Try lubricating the throttle linkage.

throttle body needs cleaning?

or: disconnect the gas pedal throtle cable from the throllte body. Then pull on the cable to see if it moves freely. Then from inside the car depress the gas pedal to see of the stiffness is still present. If it still is, the problem is probably inside the "tube" ( dont know the name) the gas pedal cable runs into. Maybe try to lubricate with light oil this cable inside it's "tube" ,

Do a full tuneup with NGK plugs and clean the TB & IACV. Check for a knock sensor code. Make sure you're using premium gas

I'd 2nd the recommendation to clean the TB, especially since he said the problem goes away after the car has warmed up. I had the same problem last winter when the weather was cold. The accelerator pedal feels like it stuck, so you have to push harder to make it move. Next thing you know the car is accelerating like a ****. The problem goes away only after the carbon built up inside the TB warms up and gets soft. The Motovate site has excellent directions for cleaning.
