check your tire pressure? last time you changed your fuel filter? last time your car had a tune up? knock sensor doesn't always throw a code...sorry if that's not really a help, just some places to start.

Put in a new air filter--there is a good chance you will see an improvement. I have the K&N which is kinda bogus, but since I have it, I clean it every oil change. I always find stuff trapped in the filter, mostly from trees, those little furry seeds or whatever. I think it kills the mpg--I've seen it as low as 24 mpg highway when not cleaned. Good luck.

Not sure if this will be much help, but I just bought a used Mitsubishi Diamante, (2001, 26,000 miles) that got terrible milage for the first few months (14 city, 20 hiway) but after about 2 or 3 months, it improved to 18/25. I can only guess that because it wasn't driven, that the oxygen sensors were a bit slow or something of that nature.

I had taken it to the local dealer, and they didn't really care because there were no codes in the computer.

As was mentioned before, check the air cleaner and put a new (stock type) in and see if it improves. Also, you need to consider how you drive it.

Do a full tuneup using NGK plugs. Check the ECU for the knock sensor code (it's a ghost code so it won't turn on the CEL)
