Maxima Drag Racers: Report In: Whats been going on ?

Whats been going on with everyone who takes their NISSAN MAXIMA to the dragway ? Whats your best time ? Whens the last time you went and when are you going again ? Any new mods ? Any new problems ? Won any good races lately ?

I have not been to the dragway since 10/18/03. Didnt win many races that night which was funny. My car ran 14.4's all night and it seemed now that my car was the fastest its ever been, I was getting my butt kicked even worse. HA !

Im itching to hit the track again soon. I took a break from modding. And kicked back in this week. Purchased some Corbeau Clubmans (2 seats, 2 mounting brackets 595 to my front door) to replace my stock leathers.

This mod is really all about enjoying the car even more and weight reduction. Not to mention my leathers were getting old. Next week im ordering a carbon fiber hood which should cut off some more weight and then the car goes to the body shop on Dec. 9th to have the body kit and fresh paint put on. So I will post some pics of the finshed project. I hope to toss on a set of Rota Subzeros in bronze maybe some 18's one day. Then I can just cruise on those and race on my 16's.

I do have some problems in the camp with some mild pinging. Im also having a cell (egr system) so im going in next week for that. The max runs real strong though, just some light pinging and mild acceleration once in a while. Not being a mechanic minded person. Im wondering if I should just not drive the car or what until this is resolved. Some weeks ago I had almost gone with selling the car, and at the last minute declined on an offer. So im back to keeping the car for life. Who knows, I may have the car completely MINT one day ! I still cannot get Supercharger out of my mind. Why on earth is that SC so much money ? IM thinking everyone on the org would have one for 1500 dollars !

Anyways, whats going on out there ? Interested in whats happening and what are some thoughts on pinging ? Will this kill the engine or is there not to much to worry about ?

What's up man? I was wondering where you've been lately.
Last time I heard from you, you were contemplating gettin a new car, so I figured that's what happened. I was waiting for one of the infamous"good-bye .org" threads to pop up. I'm glad you are keeping the chariot. Btw, Have you noticed more of a sort-of "flat spot" when accelerating around 2200 to 2900 rpms since you have had the injen? Just wondering if it was just me?
Last time i ran it was an 1/8 mile: 2.23 60ft 9.58 ET could break into the 9.4's if my 140,000 mi. clutch was not about to give. i'm hitting up the track tomorrow so... Good to hear from you.

Nothing new here. I ran a PB last Sunday 14.40@97mph with a 2.20 60' followed by a 14.48@98mph with a 2.35 60'. This was in 70 degree weather, 1/2 tank of gas, 92 octane, my passenger seat yanked, and the same mods as before. The season is pretty much over so I won't have another chance till late February. I think with no passenger seats, 96 octane, 3 gallons on board, cold crisp air, and a high 2.1 60', I can get a low 14.2@99mph with what I have now. I may have drag radials by then so high 13s could be possible.

Future mods:

1) fix the OEM crimp in the b-pipe
2) drag radials
3) Cefiro chrome mirrors
4) Possibly Cattman headers if they prove good on the dyno
5) New front and rear OEM engine mounts

Sup man. Yeah, season is pretty much over here in upper midwest. Im planning on the cattman y and b pipe or hotshot headers, and for sure the TS ECU, this in the Spring. Aiming for low 14's at 100 mph. Might have to go to better rubber for the et, but the Max is running really well right now. Really looking forward to next season.

Went to the track last time a couple weeks ago, ran pb everything. 14.76 at 94.50 mph, in my Autotragic. Hit 2.1xx again, and ran 2.2xx consistently, 93-94 mph traps consistently with help from Sumitomo HTR+ front tires.

Yeah, I got my a** kicked by all the f-bodies at the track. My only kill was a horizontal taillight design GT Mustang with blower who lost a belt or blew a hose and had to shut down.

As far as your engine problems, try some BG 44K and switch to some Mobil or BP Fuels. Maybe that will cure the engine's hiccups (pinging).

I haven' yet been to the track this fall/winter. I am waiting on a good cold sunny Sunday to drive to Steele, but I live 4 hours away now so I am making sure to wait on good weather.

Ran a 14.19 and traped 99mph N/A. Don't know where to go from here. I originaly only wanted a mid 14 sec car but now I am so close to the 13's!!. I am debating if I should go with headers and cams or forced induction or just leave the car as it is. Either way it won't happen for a year or so. In the mean time I may just get some slicks and run high 13's next season.

What do you guys think I can run with the addition of headers, cams, and a cat back??? I was thinking 13.7-13.8ish on street tires.

i was looking at where we were all from. we could all meet up in kentucky (looked like a nice spot in the center) and have a maxima drag racing bash !

We could call it the East Coast Maxima Drags or something ?

Kentucky has some tracks.

Since I'm in Vegas, I"m about 7 tenths slower than sea level. I went to the track a couple weeks ago and ran 15.69 with my exhaust cutout and my smaller and lighter wheels/tires. I didn't put my car in track mode, so I was about 4 or 5 tenths slower. So within the next month, I am planning on driving to a sea level track in SoCal so I can have a good chance at getting 14.6s. We'll see. It's about 4 or 5 hours away, so I am waiting for a great cold and clear forcast before I make the drive.

good idea, there are a couple that are good here in kentucky: Beech Bend and Clay City(both 1/4 mi. tracks).
Nico(nissan infinity car owners forum) will be having a big meet at clay city in march. Some .org members show up at the nico meets:Audtatious,hlh0501,Fezzik,maxhopper,tonyvq,j ezter, and myself.
Always a great time at the meets

I think they would really benefit a VQ30 with the MEVI and higher red line. Right now power stays even after 6K. I would like to see it keep climbing. I am not sure if the JWT cams are profiled for high rpms or mid range power. A org member with a 4th gen MEVI equiped max says he will soon have a dyno with the cams.

Ceaser; If I had enough notice I would be more than willing to make a drive to a big maxima track meet, but we would almost have to rent the track out for a night. I don't want to drive 12hrs to make 3 runs.

There will be plenty of notice, and I'm pretty sure we(NICO) will be renting the track out again this year at 20 bucks a head!

Last weekend I saw 3 trailered Fbodies coming back from Wisc middle of the day. Guessing GreatLakes got rained out - probably their last chance of the year.

I'm down on power and determined to figure it out. 14.76 @ 93.1mph last month and I'm convinced I should be faster. Ok 78deg w a 21mph headwind hurt. Couple dyno runs showed -7.2hp, -2.1tq compared to last summer. The hp and tq crosses now at 5250rpm instead of 4700. More later.
Installing Cattman coilovers Wed
Ground wires here for when I get around to it
OBD2 scanner and new PDA before Xmas (for testing airflow & KS stuff)
New ECU shortly depending what I find
Engine mounts next spring
Maybe slicks and wheels depending what I find
I like the Kentucky meet idea - I'm there. Meanwhile I like this new Mustang dyno locally where I get to practice unlimited launches and runs for cheap.

Louisville is appx 6 hours or less from Atlanta (at least the way I drive). Next spring I should be ready to go again. Itching to get some good track times with my mods...

Clay City should be fun in March. I really don't like Beech Bend due to poor track prep and hope CC will be much better. I may have to make a road trip to one of the "faster" tracks next year to see what I can really do.

luckee2bhere, I wish it were that easy. While stock, a 2.208 only netted me a 14.924 at Beech Bend....

You think you could do some diagnostic stuff for me once you get the OBD-II scanner? I am interested in my timing. I will be getting ahold of you when I dyno over winter break.

I have been to beech bend twice, but I still haven't run my car there. It is about an hour north of Nashville. Victim64 never ran that great there compared to Steele, AL, but others have. My friend with a LS1 ran 12.8@113mph at beech bend, KY and a 12.6@115mph at Steele, AL. I would be up for a big meet with enough notice.

dave we would have the best race out of everyone ! ha ! your 14.40 and my 14.39 ! it would be a great drivers race at present time.

a few org members who live in kentucky should call up just to see what we would need to get the track for a day ? then we could go from there. i have no idea how much money we are talking about, but if its really high, we can bring in our nissan cousins ( altimas, 300zx's, 350's)

Was your 14.0 run done under amazing track conditions? Do you see any reason not to be able to run times like that again?

I won't lie, when I ran my 14.1 it was the perfect day ever to be at the track. 30 degrees and sunny. I pulled a 2.14 60' on that run as well. I don't think that I will ever see a time like that again w/o more mods. I most likey run 14.3-14.4 fully loaded down, on my 17's and in average weather.

i ran 14.0 on like a track day that was 50-55deg F in april. so the air was probably a little dry. launching wasn't sticky like on a hot summer day. i ran 14.0 on my 2nd or 3rd run. out of my eight runs that day i never had one slower than 14.4 or .5. and the only reason i ran slower than 14.3 was because i was slipping off the line more than usual. the car felt strong that track day. i've been driving it more than usual now. i wonder if the car is making as much power as it did last april. i have 54k on the odometer right now. the car is good for a 14.3 if i have a decent launch everytime.

i30tmiked - hey mike can you feel a difference in vehicle speed at 14.1 versus 14.4 ? Im just wondering when it starts feeling fast.

I wonder if you were flying through the 1/4 mile thinking.. WOW, this is it ! I had to have broken my best time ! Or were you surprised as h*** ?

Either way you made a believer out of me. Before that run I thought the VI was a waste of money and time, but you must have everything tweeked out and running perfect.

As for as me hitting 13.9 I have no idea what I will have to do to get there with Stock US manifold and technosquare ecu ? Im working on cutting out 100 lbs right now, but im still looking at 14.29 at best ! YIKES !

I can't tell the difference between a 14.4 and a 14.7 if that tells you anything.

I wonder if you were flying through the 1/4 mile thinking.. WOW, this is it ! I had to have broken my best time ! Or were you surprised as h*** ?

It's hard to feel fast at the track for a couple reasons. Being in an open area like the drag strip there is no referance points to "feel" fast. I actually feel slow at the track compared to the street. Going against 11 & 12 sec cars does not help much either.

The track I race at your 60' time is shown as your going down the track so I know if I am going to have a good run or not. My first run of the day I was shocked, I had a high 2.2 60 foot and ran a 14.5(this was in full street trim minus the spare). I had a big smile on my face and knew I was in for a good day.

Later that afternoon I kept running 14.2's with 2.19ish 60 foots. Then on my last run I saw the 2.14 60' flash up on the board, I knew that as long as I did not mis-shift I had a 14.1x. I would have to say I felt kinda fast on that run.

It did take me a while to get my VI working correctly, when I finally got rid of that damn harlan switch my times got better. I am now in the process of trying to get some slicks(I may have a deal on some used ones) and will run 13's in the spring. Like I said earlier, my plan is to get headers and a cat-back and maybe run a 13.99 on street tires.

damn i havn't posted in a while, well i went to the track back in july and ran a 15.2 @ 96 ( srt-4 ran same times at 94 mph, 6000 ft elevation), My car was not running right all day and i was loosing alot of power because of a horrible vacuum leak. So a couple months later the max dies and won't start and has been sittn in the parking lot now for a good 2 months. Its finally going into the shop this week to get fixed, So hopefully next season the car will be running right with a new intercooler lighter rims and better tires for more traction, Im looking to hit mid to high 14's at my track which is 6000 ft above sea level.

I went to the track on 11/22...got a new personal best in my '99 SE-L.

14.9@92.75mph
60' was a 2.29 on that run

(I know my times aren't great compared to Mike or Dave above, but I was happy nonetheless)

Performance mods include popcharger/midpipe & testpipe...and a B&M short shifter.
