Thanks for the feedback and info. I moved from LA to Spokane, WA and snowed 7" yesterday. I have already checked into tirerack and very useful info.

In my opinion Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1,2,Q are the best.

It depends on what you want. If you want studless, Blizzak is good or go to Les Schwab -- they have the "Observe" which is like a generic Blizzak. Advertised price is 205/65/15 is $86.11 each(mounted, balanced, free road hazzard, etc.).

If you want studded tires, schwab has some Winter Trax (kind of chunky tread design) for $79.81. I think they charge like $8/tire on top of that price to install the studs.

I have some studded Cooper tires. Can't remember the name off hand. They are chunky and studded. My brother (previous owner) drove the car to Whistler in them and never had a problem. I think they were like $400 with steel wheels, mounted, balanced and installed from a Cooper dealer. Tire Factory? I can't remember.

Dunlop SP sport A2's (all season) work for me all year round! We got a couple feet of snow last year and I got around just fine in it. VLSD helps out a bunch.

um i work at sears - there are alot of cars that are getting those michillen alpine tires - they are pritty nice - nice stiff sidewall - but the only thing is they are only winter tires - you should go ahead and look for all season - or all weather tires. SEARS price matches - from internet web sites so if you find em for cheap online then take the ad to you local sears and they match it and give u 10 percent of the diff.

I have Michelin Alpines on my other car. Works real good in snow. Not sure if they still make them. They were pretty cheap too.

I just put a set of Pirelli Winter 210 Snow Sports on my '01 AE. Haven't driven in any snow yet (and I'm in no rush for that to happen) but the wet grip so far exceeds that of the OE Craptenza'a, it's unbelievable. It's an HR-speed rated tire that doesn't give that "squirmy" feeling in the dry that some snow tires can.

Cheers,

Jaeger

Wasn't thrilled with reviews I read on Alpins can see at 1010tires.com Seem to be better on dry then most but not great in snow, unless packed. I went with BFGoodrich winter slalom which is same as winter trax in Canada listed above. They are reasonable, great in snow, pretty quite and don't wear out as fast as Blizzaks cellulor compound. But they don't handle the dry like some of the performance type versions.

Nokians rule the road in winter. I have a set of Hakk 1's studded, on my Maxima, and just bought a set of Hakk 2's, unstudded for my Si. I'm going on to my 4th winter with the Hakk 1's, (from November to end of March each year) with no significant tread wear. Other brands, particularly the Blizzaks wear very quickly, so you may save money at the front end, but are buying new snows every couple of years. MY Max handles better in winters than my Outback used to with it's stock all season Michelin's. Even at 80 - 90 mph the studded Hakk's feel very stable, and the Hak 2's on the Si are awesome for cornering stability and quietness.
