how to rev engine safely before race

how can I get my rev's up at the line with an auto transmission (maxima GLE) without dropping my transsmission?

interesting technique: i was just reading about.


I don't brake torque at the line which is what most people will tell you what to do. I do a small burnout to clean off the tires. I stage and then on the 3rd yellow, I give it gas for a split second as I am still on the brake. It is almost like both feet are moving at the same time. gas pedal going down, brake pedal moving up. It is hard to explain, but it is called "flashing" the torque converter. Instead of brake torqueing you are trying to get the converter to catch right as the car is starting to move. When you "shock" the torque converter like this it lets you leave the line at a higher rpm faster. Hope this helps, it is hard to explain

brake torque? i'm new to these automatic terms, always had 5-speeds. i'm guessing that's when you rev it in neutral and drop the proverbial hammer? any help would be appreciated as i'm new to automatics. thx

OH NO! That is what we refer to as a "Neutral Drop". haha... you'll hear a clunk, your tires will spin and more than likely, you'll run over your transmission that just fell on the ground.

A brake torque is simply when you hold the brakes firmly and give the car some gas to raise the engine speed. Don't hold it for long periods of time b/c it builds up a lot of heat in the torque converter. And it's not good for the tranny.

What I do at the track is just what I explained above. Not the N drop, but the brake torque.
