I just bought the car, and to add to that I'm a poor college student. Thanks for the feedback though.

Lude....just follow the wetness up to where it originates. I followed my drip from the underside of the oil pan all the way to the top the engine where there is a leaky t-valve for purging the coolant. This was on a lude, but thats the best way to find it.

Water pumps are most common on 4th gens, not that hard to replace. Like everyone else states. . .follow the leak to its origin.

Are you sure about that?

If it is the W/P then you won't really be able to see the origin of the leak. When mine was leaking, I took down the A/C comp and the alternator and still couldn't pin-point the source. Once I'd eliminated the possibility of it being anything simple, the water pump was the only other option. By your description, I'm diagnosing W/P. Sorry.

Yeah, that sounds like the water pump, I hope I am wrong for your sake cost around $550 to $600 at the dealer for w/p, thermostat, belts, and labor to replace it all. Wish I could have done it myself, but I'm not that good at major DIY. Keep us posted.

Correction it is the water pump...more specifically, the water pump gaskets.....something that is cork that errodes over time.....when these go, a bi#TCH to replace by the way, our engines have a little weep hole bellow that bleeds out coolant rather than coming out of the water up pump seal itself...kinda of a feature our blocks have built in....i know I have the exact same problem....I simply went to kragen, got some radiator stop leak, a tiny little bottle, did a full coolant flush and then put the stuff in, hasn't leaked a drop ever since....! try it, I had the exact same leak....looked like off the ac compressor, a few dollars and an hour later, all fixed!

I strongly advise against that. The principle is the same as fix a flat. Not good for the radiator.

i don't advise against it because it doesn't plug the radiator, it has additives that rebuild cork and organic based water pump seals....I have checked the fluid every week since and it looks perfect, my temp has been perfect and no leak still....this 10K later

I've heard some bad things about that thing. It will make your seals swell up and it might cause some serious damage to your whole block.

So how long have you had the car for? Was it a private sale? Lemon laws? You might want to consider trading in the car. Water pump is going to cost you some money to get it fix.

I bought the car a month ago or so. I bought it from my work. It was a trade in and had miles (185) but i got records and they are all highway miles. It runs strong and I felt this would be a good car for me.

There are no cork gaskets associated with the water pump. There are 2 rubber o-rings, that's it. One seals the coolant into the block and one seals oil. Since the w/p is internal, it's got coolant running on one side and oil on the other.

Well I hope your car keeps going, knock on wood.

But they also sell stuff that rebuilds cartilage. The idea is to avoid the inevitable, in that case surgery. Fix a flat, Stop Leak, to avoid the correct repair.
