Hesitates after 3500 rpms. SE 5spd

I just picked up a 99 Max SE w/ 5-spd.

And I notice like in 3rd gear at about 3500rpms while opening the trottle to the floor I get a little hesistation and gets a little missy then changing the gears it still does it. This is if I am hitting it to the MAX (acceleration). But if I drive normal... it does not happen @ 3500rpms or in any gear.

I went to AutoZone and swooped up a can of fuel injector cleaner and also a new fuel filter. But can these two items maybe fix the problem I am occuring??

Thanks for any help or other suggestions to check out.

-Mike

Knock Sensor? Where would this sensor be located at and what does this sensor cost about.??

Should this be the cure? I have no check engine lights on at all,, for a code of a sensor being out or bad.

I think I might found the problem and have a solution .

1st,,, I have a full tank of gas filled up before my car purchase today by compliments of the StealerShip.

2nd... I bet they put POS gas in it.

3rd... Now on my old 1998 Max GLE Automajic,, I always ran low grade fuel and never had any probs. But now since I have the 5spd SE model 1999,,, do you think I should run at least 89-91 oct instead and not run 87 Oct??

87oct in my old 98 Max ran great. Any thoughts??
Thanks again,

prolly woulda ran better than you thought was great if you put in 91+...

5 spd vs auto doesn't make a difference, you should put premium in both.

The knock sensor does not trip the CEL light, best thing to try is pulling the codes to see of you get a 0304 code which is the knock sensor, instructions are in the FAQ.

LOL I know what your problem is Shift.

First of all, you should experience hesitation in other areas as well, but it will be most noticeable at 3500+. This hesitation sucks. I had this too, and I drive a 99 5-speed. Its your coil packs, almost without a doubt. If you check your codes you will prob get 0304 (knock sensor code). Unless you have high mileage (above 100k miles I would say) don't replace. I replaced mine, did not solve problem. However, I replaced coil pack in cyl # 5 (this didn't really solve prob and so 1 month later, I changed cyl #3 coil pack). This solved the problem and I love my max yet again. I tried PCV valve, fuel system cleaner, KS, fuel filter before finally replacing the second coil pack which solved the problem. Take it to a stealership or Autozone and ask them to get the code, see if you can tell what cyl misfires. If not, yank the coils out one by one with the engine running to see which ones DONT affect engine and thats the bad one. Good luck
