tranny crapped out, kinda funny actually

i posted a few weeks ago about a strange problem with my tranny, where the shifter was getting stuck in reverse. well about a week ago, i was with some friends, and it got stuck in reverse again, we knew now from experience that the only thing to do is drive in reverse to get it un stuck, well we did, but then the tranny shifted from reverse to 4th by itself, then from 4th to 2nd lol. at that point we were in the middle of no where and decided to drive bakc to my friends house (about 10 minutes down the freeway) well we get about 2 minutes form his house and the tranny just completely craps out. we couldnt move and the clutch just kept burning. anyways, after dealing with AAA about 6 times (they dont like towing modded cars) i finally took it to my shop and got quoted at $1500 for new rebuilt tranny (they are rebuilding it this weekend) new clutch and labor costs. for thoes of you that have gotten tranny rebuilds in the past, is this a good price?

$1500 is not too bad from a good shop. A clutch job alone can be around $500. There are no aftermarket parts for tranny internals, so everything must be bought from Nissan, and OE parts are not cheap. I paid $1700 for a rebuild, clutch and flywheel install. I could have gotten it a bit cheaper but it pays to go with a good shop.

the shop does very high quality work. the guy does a lot of work on top end BMWs and ferraries.

i dont know what the hell happened with the tranny, but when they opened it up, all the gears were jammed and ripped apart, and the clutch was completely gone it had been burned down to the bone.

on the plus side ive been driving my moms '89 volvo 740TI stationwagon ofr the last 2 weeks, so when i get my max back its gonna feel really fast
