Sunroof repair/Headliner removal

For those considering a sunroof rebuild, I found a used sunroof for $125 at a junkyard and am rebuilding it with the repair kit (two dealers in Pittsburgh had it in stock, $49). Doing it this way lets you figure out how to do the repair without having your car out of service too long. Have read the discussions about removal of headliner, but it's not clear exactly how it can be removed from the car. Can anyone breifly describe the process? Is it necessary to remove it completly?

I just did this last week and let me tell you it was a b*tch to do. If you had enough people you might could get everything out without removing the headliner from the car but I wouldn't want to try it. I tried every way I could think of to get the headliner out and ended up taking out both front seats, the rear bench, and the center console. People have done it without removing all of this but it made it much easier and I had more room to work in the car. Still I had to bend it pretty good to get it out the front door. I would say you wasted $125 on buying the new sunroof as the actual rebuild is not very hard at all. The headliner gave me the most trouble. If you have any more questions you can e-mail me as I just went through it all.
