HELP- I am flaming mad!

Okay, so I had an install done on my 99 SEL that used to have the BOSE system.I had an alpine Head unit put in and they did not use a pocket for underneith, but instead used a piece of plastic to cover the hole. I was not happy with the service and instead of having another headache of asking them to put a pocket in, I went to Best Buy and bought the kit with the pocket. The pocket itself was not a standard DIN size. But the over all kit was indeed double din size. it was just that the radio space did not line up with the holes on the car! The kit said it was for a 95-99 Maxima. Anyhow, NOTHING lined up. It was a complet bust. The pocket was smaller than a DIN size and the rado, in order to be put in would have to be lowered about half an inch- but in doing that, there would be no mounting holes in the dash's metal chassis. IT JUST WOULD NOT WORK! SO after scratching up my clock/vent piece I still have the ugly plastic piece there. So now I have ugly scratches on my trim, and that plastic piece. Can somebody PLEASE direct me? Thanks!

hmm, so nothing lined up.
if you want the "perfect match", i'm not too sure how similiar 4th gen and 5th gen setups are, but on the 5th gen, they have an OEM piece that is made so you can put a single din unit and it looks facotry like because the trim piece IS oem. do the 4th gen's have a model that come with single din radio. if so, then you may want to see if they sell an OEM piece that may match perfectly. call daveb at southpoint nissan at888-254-6060 and have him explain it to you. he'll do a great job. other than that, my huge suggestion is hopping over to the 4th gen forum. you will get 20x's more responses from that area, since it is a 4th gen car. tell them the audio forum is a ghost town and you just want to know if there is a second din slot or pocket or trim piece that fits nicely and lines up with all the holes when putting in an aftermarket unit.

or if you wanna make it look PIMP, hit me up, we can do soemthing to that lower pocket so it can look clean. i used mirrored plexiglass and made cutouts to hold a few switches and a voltage meter, so i made use of that pocket.

have to help you out. you a fellow NYer and no ones helped you out yet. let me know what you do.

If you bought the correct kit from Best Buy. You need to remove everything from the metal brackets that hold the radio and AC controls. You then remove the trim that surrounds the radio/factory pocket from the metal brackets. The new dashkit mounts between the trim and the brackets.

Whats up POLO,
Thanks for your reply and your offer for help! I really appreciate it brother! What I did was order a Nissan sleeve from Crutchfield, being that they usually don't mess up and they have lots of installation expertese. It may be here tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes!

Yeah, we looked at the install from every possible angle- it was hopeless.

i think that plastic piece is to put an in dash EQ in. I know you went through a lot of trouble, but i think that if you bought a nice looking EQ your problem would have been solved.

Just go buy the right pocket from Nissan. They are the right size, and they have a couple of designs to choose from. I have the one with the door under my radio, and I have the display for my Radar detector mounted in there.
