the stock Bose that I have on my 97 GLE. Okay, okay, it is a great sound system and all. Yesterday I was with my friend who was looking for a car and we saw a lot of used Maximas from 97-99 and they were not asking for that much for them. I saw this one, which was very similar to mine but was a GXE--it had a moonroof, remote, and basically everything that my GLE has except for the leather, auto climate control and ABS. Everything else is the same. I looked at the sound system...it looks exactly like my BOSE--but it doesn't have the BOSE logo on it--but it sounds the same. Does anyone know what is the deal with that? Is the Bose in our cars--really a BOSE? or is this the same stuff that I can tack on fro 500 bucks with the comfort and convenience package on the GXE? I hope this is not a marketing gimmick from Nissan to take more $$$!!!

Well..

It is the same head unit. Bose and non use the same "clarion made" head unit. However....your car has Bose speakers vs. the gxe's clarion speakers. I'd say when cranked the bose probably blows it away.

The Bose has 200 watts of amplified power whereas the non-Bose unit (same headunit) has only 120 watts.

Bose is unique in that it has amplifiers at each speaker instead of a central amplifier on the deck. This makes stereo upgrades difficult though.

Yeah, I have compared the two systems and I am positive that the GLE's is much better. It all depends on the clarity at high volumes and it is more evident on certain songs.

crank up the vol to moderate levels, not even loud levels and you can tell the quality difference. and o yea always test out systems with cds. i always carry one on me when i test drive cars.

the quality

of the cd's on the bose is really second to none. I think it sounds equally as good/ if not better than the speakers (harmon kardon stuff) in the bimmer 3 series.
i do notice the radio quality is alright...but the cd--excellent...on loud levels, it does make my rear view mirror shake.
