How hard do you think it would be to put 6x9's in my rear deck if I don't have a bose system? What materials would I need to make this possible?

 

the easiest thing to do would be go to a junk yard and buy the bose brackets for the rear. That way you dont cut the back shelf up.

 

I'm interested in doing the same thing, is it necessary to cut the factory 5 1/4 hole bigger or do you just need the brackets to hold the 6x9's

 

I would guess that there are 6 3/4 inch (to correct you statement on the 5 1/4 hole since the rear speakers are 6 3/4 inches) brackets holding the speakers in place. If not I think I could cut the hole by just a litte. Or I could just go to the junkyard and take the whole rear panel instead of the cutting. I would try to get the brakets first.

 

Well I don't know what factory system you have, but my rear factory speakers are 5 1/4's. And I don't know how you'd remove the whole rear deck out of a car at a junkyard since it is welded in metal and is part of the car's structural integrity.

 

thats bizzarre..almost all bose systems had 6x9s and almost all non bose had 6 3/4" ..all that I have seen have been that way anyway..

You can not take the whole shelf out of the car without a lot of work...it doesnt matter anyway because all of the 3rd gens have the same hole in the back of the shelf. The only difference is that the Bose equiped cars have a plastic bracket that bolts up to the deck and the 6X9 goes in it.

If you have to get the brackets from a junk yard you will need to take the rear deck shelf off (the part with the speaker grills on it) because there are 4 screws that help support the bose brackets.

Good luck...but please do not go hacking the rear deck of your car when its so easy to buy the brackets.
