RSB fell off!!!

So I was driving down the highway yesterday and I heard this sound as if I was dragging a tin can. I pulled over and couldn't find anything wrong.....then I looked underneath my car and my Stealin RSB was dragging. Turns out that all four nuts came loose and it was hanging by one bolt. Thank god - otherwise it would be gone. So I pulled it the rest of the way off just to realize that the bolts were going off the brackets and were rubbing against my tires. One of them was wearing my brand new Goodyears almost down to the first ply.

I couldn't believe it. I put it on with a regular washer, a crush washer and I used Locktite. I even tightened it to 40 foot pounds.

So today I reinstalled it with nylon lock bolts and RED Locktite. How the hell did it rattle loose?

Uhh, I have the addco rsb and you are supposed to tighten the bolts to 15 ft/lbs i think, maybe even less, I'm guessing you made it too tight...

it's been known that every couple months you should check your RSB. that includes checking for looise bolts. i've had to tighten mine.

If the bolt are likely to loosen up after a while, then you should flatten the end of the stud with a hammer ( just a little ), this way the bolt will never get loose again, and if you have to remove the RSB just unscrew it with a ratchet and it should make it.

That's the way I'm going to install my RSB.

Cheers

WHEW!
I've been meaning to check mine for some time - now I KNOW I'm going to do it....I've got an Addco and I'd think that hunk of junk'd fall-off LONG before the Stealin' would...!

Thanks for the reminder!

I suppose somebody could have tried to steal it, but I doubt it. If they got all four bolts off, why didn't they just take it? Plus it would be pretty hard to get off without taking the wheels off and I don't really park it anywhere that it could be messed with.

I'm guessing they rattled off. I didn't know that overtightening the bolts could make it come off - if that is the case should I loosen them? I put them on REALLY tight w/ the new bolts and red locktite.

I wouldn't loosen them... I've had mine on a lonnng time now and it has been fine. I agree someone tried to steal yours. Loctite should be plenty of insurance.

Red Loctite is high strength and once cured makes fasteners hard to loosen on their own. I use it at work on large bolts on trucks and heavy equipment. There is no way in this world that they can loosen without human assistance. You can take that to the bank.

I'm not going to jump on the "someone tried to steal it" bandwagon. I'll just say that the OEM RSB that came on the car was fine and you should'nt have fuc*ed with it.

Remember, If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hey mastertec....please correct me if i'm wrong, but a 2k maxima doesn't HAVE a OEM RSB, so it would be hard to fuc* with it.....

If it ain't there...don't ADD it????

like I said, please correct me if i'm wrong!

Just curious, did or has it snowed heavily by you? I know we got about 2 feet of snow a couple of weeks ago, and since the damn town I live in doesn't plow the streets for S**T, I was a bit concerned that the snow was high enuff to push against the RSB and possibly cause it to loosen. I take it being lowered doesn't help either .

Being lowered won't affect where the sway bar is because the axle is still at the same height.

Actually it did snow pretty heavily last week. Not REAL bad, but probably over four inches. I drove my car a little bit but I had my truck out most of the time.

I've always read NissanMasterTec's posts as if he was a humorist. I don't think he's actually a master tech. But yanno, it is funny to see a post from "NissanMasterTech" that says something like "Your car has a fusion reactor!! Don't open the core!!"

It could be someone trying to still it,and then you came out and then they get away.I don't think it could rattle itself loose like that, cause I had the Stillen RSB on my 96 for over 3yrs w/o any problem.

Thats probably the same kind of Moron that worked on my Max 4 weeks straight and couldnt find front noise source on the Max and kept blamming Tokicos....till I threw a fit at dealer. The Service Manager took a ride with me and in 30 secs said " lets go back, its not your aftermarket suspension, you need new bearings..".....
Thats why they make chicken scratch !

Yeah that sound like a Nissan service allright, hahaha! Alway trying to blame people for puting on this, putting on that,.......and that's the cause, and did they blame it on your 19" causing the bearing to wear out prematurely?
