speedo question

i have had two different 3rd gens now and i love them both. however, i had speedometer issues with both of them. both times the speedo would have a mind of its own and cut in and out completely at different times. if and when it was working, they always seemed to be between 5-15 miles per hour off. usually said i was going faster than i was. has anyone else had similar experiences?

the VG M/T appears to be the most problem prone on the VSS

only times i've had trouble with the speed sensor was when the wires were touching due to the plastic covers touching the exhaust manifold and burning off. i just put on some new wire and it worked just fine. a couple of sensors i've had have been worse though. sometimes they break right where they go into the sensor and are very hard to solder back together.

I have seen the VSS on these cars start to seperate. There is a black disk that sits on top of the VSS. This disk should sit flush with the metal casing. When I used to work fo rthe dealership all we did was tap the black disk with the wooden handle of a hammer. This is notoriious for this generation of Max.
