Wurbling Sound @ 1k-3k rpm???

Maxima Gurus,

I noticed I was getting this weird noise from the engine bay a few days ago, but today it went to a whole new level. I got this crazy, moderately loud wurbling noise (best I can explain w/o sound effects) from the driver's side, and it stayed around until about 2500-3000 rpm, and then quit. I get the noise in first and second gear, not really in 3rd, but it did this under light and heavy acceleration. Car is stock 2k MT w/ timing advance and 75k miles. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Edit: Ever see a treadmill in motion and touch it w/ your finger or pen to hear the sound the moving rubber makes as it passes under the object? Sounds close to that, but louder. Downshifted into second and it made the same sound, but by 4k had tapered into some kinda "spooling" sound (like my turbo volvo used to back in the day). Would be great if I had a turbo, but I don't, so it's not so positive.

Have you had your Alternator checked?

I think I might be hearing something similar...
Especially the "spooling" sound. I will do a voltage check today to see if the alternator's showing any electrically-testable signs...

Nope, haven't checked the alternator. I'll take it by autozone and have them test it.

My alternator's fine, in fact, it's better than fine... last time I checked my electrical system I got 12.5V battery, 13.5V alternator... this time I got roughly 13.5V battery, 14.0-14.2V alternator. Wow.

On the other hand, I do need to put a stiffening capacitor on my sound system... I cranked up the bass & volume and tested the voltage with the system cranked, and my electrical system voltage (tested at the battery terminals) sways CONSTANTLY, especially at idle, but it sways to a certain extent even at ~3000 RPM.

This was tested with an analog multimeter, FYI, so I could watch the needle sway back and forth.
