Re-ground the headlights. It made a huge difference. Before, my passenger headlight was dimmer then my drivers side one. Now, since both are re-grounded, both are equal and it seems that i have more road visability. I tapped into the black ground wire on each hareness and ran a 16guage wire to a spot that i thaught would be a good ground.


everyone should try and see for themsleves.

It should cost under $5. A few feet of 16 gauge wire and a couple ring terminals.

 

cost, none for me because i had wire laying around.


on the drivers side i ran the wire to where the hood open switch is( the black think with a rubber boot above hte headlight). i loosend one of the bolts and put hte wire under it. on the passenger side i used one of the grounds that was there, towards the horn/pullies.

 

That's the existing headlight ground point.

I may do this and ground them directly to the batt.

 

while you're at it, clean the harness terminals with light sandpaper or wire scraper of some kind to ensure better contact with the lightbulb. Also sand the area where you're going to ground the bulbs.

If you guys have a bunch of extra wire, then you might as well go grounding everything that looks like it needs re-grounding. That's somewhat the essence of Hypergrund Wire kits, isn't it?

 

sounds like a good idea to me... I think going to the battery direct would be everyones best bet.

awesome idea... got a question: Would the wire that is bare(ground rewire) cause anything to blow out if touched by anything? What I'm trying to get at is, is necessary to clothe the bare wire?

 

Just don't lovingly caress it against the positive (+) battery terminal or you'll surely see sparks fly . Other than that, the only other place with raw "+" voltage is your starter, so keep it away from those two spots and you have no need for insulation on the grounds.

 

I just posted something similar to this. the headlight sockets in my car were fried so i needed to replace them. i thought it was only 1 socket that was bad but it turns out the inside of the other socket is going bad. I went to courtesy nissan and ordered a new socket which seemed to be a little more heavy duty then the stock socket. When I get my 2nd socket I plan to take some pics of my fried socket, the new socket and some of the install and make a writeup.


Do u suppose your socket is to blame not the bad ground? When my lights started acting up I just simply unplugged the headlight then pluggged it back in and the light started working again. Take a look inside the socket of the light ur having trouble with and see if its toast.

 

did you have those blue light bulbs?

 

i have "hyper whites" but htey look white and not blue at all and they are 3 years old. i am also going to re-ground the batt, i read of someonse else doing this and it cannot hurt so i will giev ti a try.

if you guys have the $25-$30 laying around upgrade the whole headlight harness. godda love the 12 awg wire i used.

 

Question: did you cut the ground wire off from its original connection, then spliced the 16gauge wire and grounded it to the chassis? Or did you just tap into the ground wire while leaving the existing connection intact, in other words grounding the headlights twice?

 

Yes I grounded the headlights twice.
