my Max has been violated.

Add me to the list:

I went to a "social gathering" (read: club) in downtown Dallas Sunday night. I'm leaving the club and as I approach my car my door is open. I'm like oh s#!+. They busted my rear passenger side window. They didn't touch my stereo to my surprise. But they did take my CD case, that's right, my Sizzla collection along with all my reggae CDs. I had at least 60 CDs. Damn, and I was planning on burning them to mp3 and stop carrying the originals. They took my cell phone, my house keys with gate entrance remote and my Jean Paul Gautier cologne. I had to ride home with the heat on full blast only to have to wait until my rental office opened. I basically slept in my car with the engine running for about an hour.

I've had this car for only a year.

I know it could've been worse, my HIDs or stereo could have been stolen. But just think, 60 CDs at 12.99 a pop, that $779, cell phone $100, cologne $70. Plus OEM window replacement, tint and installation at about $300. That's over 1G in damages.

Clearly a crack head job. Dallas is infested with them like they're stuck in the '80's. I was glad when they fired the police chief. When I look at Dallas particularly south Dallas it's clear he's not doing his job. I mean, I've lived in NYC and DC and the hood is Dallas is worse, just nasty lookin' and crawlin' with addicts beggin' for money.

Anyway, I'm venting.

I noticed the fuse panel was removed but everything seems to be working.

Thing is, nothing was visible from the outside. Everything was tucked away out of sight. Plus I have 20% tint all around except windshield. So they must have been watching me or they picked a random car. Either way the damn attendant should have been watching over the cars. That Fu[k3r.

If you have home owners or renter's insurance, that might cover some of your property loss(CD's etc.). Your car insurance may even cover some of that loss.

I think it did go off, that's why they removed the fuse panel. Unless they were tryin' to steal the fuses which I wouldn't be surprised. And remember, alarms are not a deterent. They may alert you of an intruder but you better have somethin' ready if you decide to confront that person.

scopium, you have to tell me what you did to teach the thief a lesson.

i would change my house locks if he got the house keys. considering what was taken it sounds like someone who knew exactly what was in your car. my friend had his cd case stolen too, and his car is a piece of sh*t, so he knew it was someone he knew. sad, but true.

I agree that it would be a good idea to change your locks at your place. Just in case. Did they go through you console or glove box?? If so they may have taken something with your address and are just waiting for the right time. Just my $.02. Hope everything works out.

Yup, I had my house locks changed the same day. But I working on getting the mailbox changed. It is possible that I had something in my car with my address even though I completely cleaned out the car a few weeks earlier.

I doubt it was someone I know because I don't know a whole 'lota folks in Texas.

I live in NY and i party in Queens, Manhattan, I think the best lesson is the one you just got.... I dont park anywhere if the club dont have secure parking also you need to do your homework as far as the club scene because I know in some places the valet people are involved in some shaddy ****....especially cars like a new maxima the thiefs are going to break in, regardless if there is anything visible they figure, if you have something of value is hidden...thats the reality

Dark places + your Car alone + City = Theft....

No doubt. I think the theives were in a hurry because when those lights flash in the dark they really light up the surrounding area. That's probably why they didn't take the time to go for the radio.

Then again I've seen(on Cops) these junkies breaking into cars using plastic bags to store the stuff.

And about knowing the person:
Theoretically, a jealous girlfriend that knows she's soon to be out could have gotten her criminal brother to steal my keys and cell phone to see who I've been talking to on my phone and try to snoop around my house. The brother decides to steal the CDs and cologne for himself.

That b!+[#!

just a thought

call the cell phone and see who answers.....
Maybe you can recognize the voice.

Also check to see if the cell has been used at all. If it has you can track the numbers that have been called to see if any of them look familiar.

I already called SprintPCS and suspended the service. But 1 troubling thing: I had to insist that the phone cannot be activated using my service or any other service. She didn't know if this was standard procedure.

Update:

The idiots made several calls on my phone. Once the billing cycle is up(tomorrow) I will be able to view the numbers they called. I have already filed a police report.

Change all your home locks and reprogram the code of your garage door so they

don't stand a chance to mess up your property. When you dirve, always check

the rear view mirror, see if there is suspecious car following.

are you going to make a claim? The insurance may not reimburse you for CDs and cellphone unless you also have homeowner's insurance w/same company.
I feel your pain. My car has been violated twice since July '02, and both times over 3 grand in damages. I just picked up my car last night and the bodyshop ****ed up many things, I'm nearly suicidal :-(

Well, guess what,
For New Year's celebration Me and a date are going to the same club where they broke into my car. This time we're takin' her Tahoe and parking close.

And no I'm not going to make a claim. The cost to repair the window is right at $300 which is below my deductible.

I work at Sprint PCS world headquarters - the girl was mistaken. The minute you call in the phone is hotlined, meaning it can't make any calls. Any attempt to make a call goes directly to customer care. Also, the phone is flagged as stolen in our system. Any attempt to provision that ESN (the unique identifier of your phone) down the road would fail because it's marked as stolen. The only way your phone could be used again on our network is if you come in to a Sprint store with ID to prove you found your phone.

Here's the cool part: Using triangulation, Sprint can tell you exactly where your thief is - within about 2 feet if there are 3 towers nearby! This has been used in the past, but Sprint needs a police warrant to use this feature. However, I do know a guy at Sprint who keeps track of his daughter using this!

Sorry to hear about your loss. You might talk to the cops and see if hunting the jerk down w/ this method is a possibility. However, since you've already hotlined the phone he/she may not be carrying it anymore...but hopefully it's still sitting in their room!
