got a gtech and messed with it tonight

with a 1st to 2nd gear pull it said i was pushing 186 hp. if i have about 15% drivetrain loss it does equal about 215 crank hp (which should be right for this engine). i tested the 0-60 time and it said 7.23 seconds. stock is supposed to be around 9 seconds (i think). hopefully i can tune it up a bit soon and see if i can crank a few more ponies out of there... might also turn the boost up a bit.

anyone know if the readings will be different between a 1st and 2nd gear pull compared to the regular 4th gear pull on a dyno?

Doesn't the Gtech have a 'variance' of some percentage? I've heard so many times where people say that the readings on there are exaggerated by a few percent.

the key behind it is being on level ground.

I think also dialing in your weight right, too. I went to a closed truck weigh station and figured out exactly what mine weighed with me in it and a half tank of gas in my old Mustang.

i just did what the instructions said. it said take the weight listed on the car's weight limit thing and subtract 180 for each missing passenger. that put it at about 3,487 pounds or something like that. that's probably a bit heavier than it really is... but i'm not sure.

i think you may need to work on your lauches alittle because if your car has that much power which im NOT doughting it does it should be in the low 6 range 0-60.

to tell you the truth ive never used the HP function i should go try but my buddy just borrowed the GTECH literaly an hour ago so that will have to wait

not to brag or anything but stock i ran consistant 6.6's. With a ypipe, intake, 470 ohm resister and udp i ran a best of 5.9 (on a 20 degree night when the VE was running the best its ever run) with an average of 6.2 on the old motor. With the jdm VE ive been getting consistant 6.2, 6.3's with ****ty tires spining from 2500 to red line in first so with my old yokahamas (which are very very bald) i sould be able to pull more like 6.0 consistantly.

so i would say get to a dyno and see if its putting down the right amount of power to be sure and for sure tune it

well if he is running stock VG30ET boost and turbo than its about right...215 crank translates to only about 180whp and the stock Z31s were never 0-60 kings...I think 7-7.5 was common 0-60 for them stock

i actually didn't try for the best launches i could have which is why they are a bit higher. really, i should be pushing more than the stock 215 for the jdm motor. i have a cone filter and a very high flow exhaust. i'm pushing about 7 psi of boost which i think is stock on the Z, but i'm not positive. i'll have to mess around with it some more.

not yet. bernard is messing with the chips to see if some different programming will run the fuel correctly. for now i just have the stock ecu on the car with the s-afc running really low. works pretty well but it is still a bit rich.

what's weird is i should be able to fully compensate for the difference in size between the stock and turbo injectors with the s-afc but even at -50% it is running a bit on the rich side... makes me wonder if the s-afc is even doing anything.

How are you measuring the the afr? 215 hp sounds about right. I think a stock t3 Z runs about 6-7 psi so with the better intake and manifolds you have it might get you the extra 15hp. Turn up the boost to 10-11 and have some fun. I'm still running my Z at 4psi for the clutch but so far it seems to be running just about right on the stock z31t ecu.

these engines should have the euro cam with brings the hp up by 10 giving it the 215 stock hp. since the intake and exhaust is better it should be higher than that. but, this is measured with a gtech on a highway. there's no telling how far off it could be.

i have no afr readings at the moment but i can tell by the smell of the exhaust it is running quite rich. sometimes it reminds me of a lawnmower...

That sound awefully hefty. My 4th gen in full street trim with me (185lbs), 1/2 tank of gas, WSP subframe connectors, and 25lbs of tools weighed at 3240lbs on a CAT truck scale. Seeing that CAT certifys their scales to be accurate and will pay for an overload ticket, they typically weigh 2-4% heavy. So my Max may weigh more like 3170lbs with me in it. Nissan lists the 5 speed SE 4th gen with full fluids at 2980lbs. The 3rd gen was only about 80lbs heavier than the 4th gen, ~3060-3080lbs seems realistic to me for a 3rd gen. Assuming you're an average size guy (170lbs), your car should only weigh about 3250lbs fully loaded and compensating for a few extra pounds from the turbo setup. Saying that the car weighs 250lb heavier that it really is will skew you G-Tech data fairly significantly. I wouldn't be surprised if your G-Tech times dropped into the mid 6 second 0-60 range and upper 14s if you used the 3250lb weight. If you launched harder, then you could probably dump another .3-.5 seconds from you ET.

I've used a G-tech at the track before and they're fairly accurate in terms of 1/4 mile ET. They usually read about .1-.2 and 3-4mph too fast (ie I run a 14.6@97, it says I did a 14.4@100mph). I've gotten 5.7-5.8 0-60s and I don't put much faith in that.

Launch around 3500-4000rpms, get the car rolling, then quickly release the clutch while feeding it gas. That should net you some better numbers for sure.

BTW, are you ever coming up Kansas City to dyno?

the gtech only uses the wieght for measuring HP, it doesnt need the wieght for 0-60 or 1/4 miles times

and oyur right about that wieght i bet MTs car only wieghs 3200lbs with him in it which would lower the HP rating on the GTECH. best bet is to take it to the dyno for HP readings but im confident that its 0-60 and 1/4 times are very close

i weigh about 240 so total weight would be near 3320# i suppose. probably a bit more since i have a sound system in there and other junk. hopefully i'll be able to run up to KC sometime and get it dynoed. not sure when though since i'm broke at the moment, lol.
