Car runnin sluggish don't know why?

About a year ago i installed a used motor from a 99 max with 60k miles in my car, ran great for the first 6 months but lately has been really sluggish. I have the pop charger air filter, underdrive pulley, and G-reddy exhaust on it, last couple of months my car has been running really sluggish, I even lost a race against my buddy who has a stock 95 max. I did a tuneup, and a complete motor-vac/fuel line cleaning, didn't help. If anyone has had any similar probs or ideas, let me know be much appreciated. Thanx

could be the knock sensor...run the CEL even if the light isnt on...the Knock Sensor code is a ghost code and wont trip the light

Always check ignition components

Plugs, wires, coils and possibly alternator.

Then fuel system...fuel filter, fuel pump, then injectors.

I haven't heard anything about the knock sensors going bad, I would figure that would trip the check eng light, right now it is not on. I wonder if my cat converter is clogged, might have to check that. Thanx for the replies.

Bad knock sensor will not necessarily trip the CEL. Check the codes anyway. That is more likely the culprit rather than a clogged cat.

Got to change my oil this week anyway so I might as well run a scan test, do you think a knock sensor would attribute to a rough start sometimes? Ever now and than I get like a hesitation and the check OIL light flashes for a quick second when I am starting the car.

Possibly fuel pump... or starter, but try this - turn your key to the on position and wait a couple of seconds and then crank it. See if it starts any faster. If so, then it might be fuel pump... no biggie. A lot of gen 4s do the same thing.
