Harder shifts from a rebuilt / remanu tranny?

I just had my remanufactured tranny installed exactly a week ago. When I got it back, everything seemed correct again and my mechanic said everything looked in order when he took it for a short spin.

Fast forward to today... lately, I've been experiencing some harder shifts and even some late shifts. I forget exactly how the tranny shifted before I had to get it replaced, but when I lay on the gas a little bit more (but not completely floored), 1st gear will run into ~4000 rpms then I get a harder shift to 2nd. With my head off the headrest, I literally got knocked back into the headrest and forcefully enough to realize it (but not a tremendous jolt). This, however, doesn't always happen. When I let the gas go on a nice smooth pace, it shifts fine at ~2500-3000 rpms. It's when i apply a little more force on the pedal that this happens.

I'm curious if this is normal for a rebuilt / remanufactured tranny. I recall some people saying harder shifts are actually better for a tranny (one premise behind the VB Mods, I think), so I'm assuming a newer tranny would show something similar?

you're feeling the effects of a properly functioning trans and trans control computer.

I'm still holding back flooring it lately since I just got it replaced, but once I get some more mileage on it, I'll give it a go on the highway.

The harder shifts aren't annoying, esp. since they don't happen all the time, only when I apply a little more gas like I said. To be honest, it gave me a smile when I felt it the first few times... shifting from 1st to 2nd and knocking me back slightly was what I took as a sign of it hauling a** . The only thing uncomforting is what I'm assuming is a slight lag in that 1-2 shift

How is that a properly functioning tranny? That tranny in stock form should shift so smoothly, you can't feel it.

I don't know what that guy did to make those shifts firm. Sometimes they do install a Transgo shift kit just for safe measure and you can definitely feel the difference there.

I have the same issue with the hard shifts. I floor it then I get a hard shift. But then I also get a hard down shift. Looking into getting the TransGo Shift Kit.

Has anyone ever install this on their's & any feedback on them?

ok ima high jack this since dont want to start a new thread if its ok... well yesterday i swaped out my brothers auto trans since his old trans 1st 2nd gear friction plats disintegrated and made the trans fluid to yummy looking choco smoothy. so we whent to the junk yard and pulled a trans from a blown engine max (water in oil) and to our luck the trans was recently rebuilt (very clean and still spray painted) .. well the trans works grate and shift and locks hard but now thier is a issue of the car cutting off or stutters and drops rpms bad and then normalizes when we shift it into gear, but mostly cuts off. to mee it feels like the trans/tq converter doesn't want to let go of the gear so it cuts off almost like if the car was stick and braking while in gear .... any one with info on this issue would be nice thanx ... (ima drain some fluid out since i think we put like a 1qt or 2qt more of trans fluid)
