KeyLess Entry Problem , please help stuck outside car
KeyLess Entry Problem , please help stuck outside car
I have been having some problems with the keyless entry thing not working for a few days.
Apparently this car ( which i got when it was 103k ) has a keyless entry which was an aftermarket unit put on sometime later after they got it.
This keyless remote has been acting up for some time now , i have to hold that little button down for quite some time before i hear the double beeps form the car to confirm that is open.
I know , i can use the keys , but they keyhole has never been used in about 4 years and after a lot of effort i got it to open with the keys. Now if i open the car with the keys ( and now i can do it ) it unlocks the door but when i open the door the alarms go off and opening the trunk lid with the keys will not shut off the alarms. The car will not start even if i put the keys in the ignition.
What can i do. Can i get some remote from ebay and program it. What should i get , has anyone had a similar problem. I cannot search , please help. Right now the car is locked sitting in the yard and immobile.
thanks

Checking the battery is a good idea. Meanwhile try this:
Find out what kind of aftermarket alarm system is installed.
Get a manual and shut alarm system with key in the ignition and pressed switch what ever times manual says. This should shut down an alarm.
Then switch alarm into vallet mode which would allow you to open doors with a key and start the car.
Another way is to see if factory alarm is a problem. This is easy - unlock RH front door with a key.
Good luck

Yeah. For the guy who posted this question, just change the battery. They're about $3-4 at most autostores. Make sure you buy the 12v battery, it looks like a half size AAA battery. Not that expensive. Just get a cap to the store, bring along your remote and you should be all set.
the button on my alarm is super tough to hold down, and the spare one that i have opens the car up fine.
go support your local alarm guy and have the alarm replaced. alarms go bad. especially after years of service. save the headaches and spend the 125-250 and get a new one installed and warranted

I should have probably mentioned this before , i did replace the batteried twice and the problem lies in the remote itself. any other ideas.
rip the alarm out and don't put a new one in?
You get a $500 ticket here if your alarm goes off for more than 5 min and somone reports it and you can not prove that somone had actually tried to break into your car..the factory alarm works great for this..you can't set it off really without prying on the trunk lid or hood, or if you reach in through the window and lift up the lock ****..all of which are all the proof you need to say somone tried to get into your car..

I will never put an aftermarket alarm in my car unless it just happened to come as an option with a remote starter..and THEN I would disable it..I've always had only the factory alarm..plus, I don't need remote keyless entry, I have a GXE with touchpad keyless entry on the door
