is this a good deal? please help! (rims)

i met a guy in my apartment complex with an 89 se, and my oh my does it look gorgeous. he's done a lot of work to it and i think it would easily compete with most of the maximas on this board, aesthetically. too bad he doesnt know about maxima.org forums yet lol

OKAY

he has these enkei rs6 rims on his max and he offered to sell them to me, along with some 2-3 month old tires for $300. i'm not sure what kind of tires, because i met the guy at 1:00 AM after he followed me into my complex to tell me that my brake lights weren't working (maximas lookin out for each other!!) (he told me he paid about $800 for the rims and tires new, i assume the tires are pretty good considering how he invests heavily into his max)

anyways, i know the 5 spoke rims looks great on maximas, but these are 6 spoke and i think they look great. they are in excellent condition, like i said the guy takes great care of his stuff

so what do you all think? these and new tires, $300 and he installs them for me (i don't know the first thing about installation =[ )

(btw i'm not sure of the size of the rims - the conversation was moving along so quick, all i gathered was that these were the size of the stock rims)

thanks guys

they're the size of normal stock rims...sorry i have no clue what that is though

in any event, the price for the smallest size brand new for each is like $140 online, so his $300 sounds nice to me (just need your opinions)

Personally for $300 i'd want to at least bump to a 16" becuase there is no advantage ,outside of looks, to changing to the same size rim.

i'd also like to bump up to 16" (who knows it might be 16, i have to call the dude to find out more) but i really need to dump these stock maxima rims. these are some of the ugliest rims in the world and the price seems right for these rs6's

what do you mean by advantages of going 16" ?

Actually, even though they are the same size as the stock rims, the one advantage is that they are probably lighter, which would increase acceleration a bit.

the advantage of a 16" rims to a 15" rim...
Better Handling (like internetautomar said)
Larger rims look better.
I wouldn't worry about weight too much unless you want forged rims or are buying anything larger than 17" rims. 15-16" won't make that much of a weight difference.

Just getting new tires for $300 is almost worth it by themselves, as long as they are decent tires. I think my 15" tires cost around $300 and they are H rated Firestones (not that great).

The wheels should probably be worth $300 (without tires), even if they are 15s, as long as they aren't curb rashed or have pot-hole dents.

Personally, if I were to get new wheels and tires, I would go with 16s or 17s, but for that price you should pick them up, just because it's such a good deal and run them until you can afford to buy something you really want. You could probably sell just the wheels alone for at least $200-$250.

On top of that, I think most tire stores charge about $10 each to mount and balance tires, if you don't buy from them. That's about $40 in labor you'd be saving, too. Although you really should learn how to operate a jack and a lug wrench. You might get a flat one day.

Personally I wouldn't bother if they are just 15's. Sometimes 15" wheels look funny or make the tire appear too fat because of all the dead space in them. If you want better tires, just buy some and mount them on your stockers. Also once you get a second set of wheels you will have to sell, dispose of (dumb), or store your current ones. All for little if any real advantage unless you like the looks of them, but they still cost you money that you could put into buying something more worthwhile.

Get 16's and up or nothing IMHO.

Check what tires they are, and see how much they're worth new and if they're better than what you have now.... the next question is though, would you just buy them for better tires or do you need them?

for $300, I'd go for it if they're in great shape if I were in your shoes..

Anyone around here with rims bigger than 16" generally ruin them within a year because of pothole dents..the odds of you avoiding all potholes around here are about as likely as a red ferrari not getting clocked by a radar gun while going through a speed trap..

I'd like some different rims just so my car doesn't look stock..there is 1 other .org member that I know of (a 5th gen junkie going to college here), and he didn't think any of the other maxes in town (mine included) were .org members because none look modded..the only way mine is identifieable is by the K&N sticker (+13 hp right there) in the rear right side window..

I'll probably wait and get 16s though..but damn, I like my Uniroyal Nailguards..I don't have to carry a spare, just a little 12v tire inflator..

this is what i was thinking. i'm so eager to get rid of my stock rims, and i could just sell these whenever if i found some better 16's or 17's for the right price.

thanks for all the comments guys, but i'm too lazy to quote them all. regarding the tires that the guy said he would include - no, i really don't need new tires. the tires i have now are about a year old. his are newer, though, and probably better
