Noise under the hood

Sounds like knives sharpening, real squeaky and kinda loud. Going check tomorrow morning to see where it's coming from but from this description, what does it sound like? Is this sound familiar to anyone?

nubiannupe--> <--MrGone Smart@$$!

It's hard to figure out WHAT that noise could be. It could be just about anything. If it's happening when the engine is running, it could be your water pump going bad, a pulley on the alternator, loose belt, plates/forks from last night's dinner... heck, it COULD be Shawn up in there trying to MAKE you think something's wrong. And we KNOW how much of a prankster HE can be.

Toss us a bone, bro.

Me too, I'm hearing recently a squeaky sound coming from the left side of engine compartment when standing in front of car. It's a large cylinder shaped thing with some sort of valve thing on top. The belts attached to it are squeaky. Belt dressing? what to do to fix it.
Thanks
Jeff

Large cylinder shaped thing - valve on top...do you mean your A/C compressor? Make sure the sound isn't coming from that, as it may indicate a bearing going bad...which is bad news...only good news is you probably have R134 in your car (93 and up I think) so if you do have to replace the compressor, it's a lot cheaper to charge up again.
