hard starting
hard starting
well my car didn't start for me today in below freeezing weather. i just bought it last week and he had said he already replaced the coolant temp sensor. it has alwats started hard in cold weather for him and he said he had to pump the gas a couple times to get it started. what are some other possibilities on why it's so hard to start.and is a block heater nessecary?
I've always been told to never pump the gas on a car,It suposible messes with the automatic choke and will only make it worst.
Do our Maximas have engine block heaters???
I looked but couldn't find one
96 se 5spd
w/cold weather package (so I would think It would have one)
Its so cold here that my hood struts blew out and when I opened my hood the fluid inside them was coming out--- oh well there shot, but a vise grips works for now
-35 wind chill this mourn- even worst last night
low next week tues is: -19
Still not much snow though

about the same temps here about 200 miles from you. i know you are never suppose to pump the gas on fuel injected vehicles you will only flood them.mine doesn't have a block heater but i was thinking of having one installed.

Your starter. I had alot of problems, and If I would of listen to other .org members when they first told me, I would of been much happier. Take your starter of and take it to get checked, at autozone.
At least thats what happend to me,
good luck

a) mileage b) condition c) any repairs or maintence d) local temperatures e) does it spin fast enough to start, etc
1) New battery 2) tune up 3) synthetic oil 4) fuel line antifreeze 5) battery blanket 6) block heater 7) new starter if all else fails
Good Luck

how about just the fact that its -40. most cars arent meant to deal with temps like that, especially for a sustained amount of time. the winter here in new england has been rough on everybodys car...doesnt matter if its in tip-top shape.
it spins fast enough. it just seems that it's not getting gas. pumping the gas does start it though. just had full tune up, new battery. it/s been around 30 below car has 150,000 . runs fine after getting started no cel or nothing.
Um, correct me if i'm wrong here..but when your car isn't on, and you pump the gas...ALL it does is move the throttle body plate...IT DOES NOT PUMP GAS INTO THE ENGINE...the fuel is electronically controlled on our cars...

Pumping the gas on a fuel injected car does nothing during a start up. There is no excellerator pump and no extra fuel is pumped into the car. If your having hard starts, your car needs a fuel injector or intake cleaning, coolant temp sensor or the cold idle circuit (plunger) on our cars needs adjustment.
so your telling me that you can never flood our cars by pumping the gas on a start up? the throttle body was just cleaned. what other parts would need to be cleaned? i dont think its a injector because im no missing on any cylinder. coolant temp sensor was just replaced.i'm thinking it's probably the plunger so how do i adjust it and where thanks.
well this morning it didn't start up again so i found some starting fluid and it started so i can rule out the starter. so how do i adjust the the cold idle circuit (plunger) and where
