All the time?

Counldn't you run the power wire to the step lights to your head unit? Ask Matt

I'm sure you were asking a different Matt, but anyway...

The lights would not be a big drain on most circuits. If you wanted to wire to the accessory position on your ignition switch, I think that would work fine. The hard part will be finding the power wire(s) to all of the door lights. I think it would be slick wired to your head unit, but the remote/antenna/amp wire does not put out much current. I would put a relay in, and pull two wires from the radio area (power wire to the radio and remote turn-on).

well on a gxe model you can pull the wire from the keyless entry unit on the passenger side, which is what i did for my keyless. its the whole dome light/ door lights and stuff but you culd turn the domelight off while you drive. hmm well i think the door open light may be on too then though. i dunno if you are interested still i could find out the wire color for you to do that. it did require a relay for the power, caue i think it requires a bit of juice for that wire to be powered. anyways, later.

actually i was just thinking

that i have a wire comming out of my bose harness thats for the lighting to the stereo because it was hooked up to the dimmer but my head unit never needed that power that used to go to the bose head unit so i might do that but i have to find the wiores for the step lights. But you guys should see how my car looks all done up in blue exterior (bumper lights and soon side markers and the clear corner turning signals looks good. my power acoustics head unit used to be blue but now im getting that clarion double din one so it should still look hot with the step lights.

but i keep doing improvements to my car but im gonna sell it soon to upgrade ( 1994 se 5spd)can't wait till i find a good one.

anyway thanks for the help

any ideas on the easiest way to get to the wires ( mabey a place where they all meet?) and if the power for the lighting for the stock bose unit would be enough?

the easiest way to do it would be to tap into the wire coming off the door sill "button" at the bottom right corner of the driver door frame..
wire in a switch that will connect that wire to ground when you want the lights on. (make sure that's the same thing the switch does first.. I'm about 90% sure that switch connects to ground when the door is open, but there is always a chance nissan did it different than every other carmaker in the world.)

but just wire it into a switch so you can turn your lights on and off at will. this will also cause your automatic seatbelt to slide forward and the "door open" light to come on in the dash..

Hmmm... tell you what.. use one of the back seat door switches for this.. that way the seatbelts won't be affected. the lights will still come on correctly, but the auto seatbelts won't do anything weird.

Be sure not to disconnect the door plate switch either.. just tap into the wire and go to the switch.. connect the other end of the switch to ground on the car.
that's it.

yep, basically what i said, cept i was thinkin of tapping in at the keyless entry module box thing behind the glove box for the same type of trigger the intereior lights like matt. i thought about the seatbelt thing too, but like matt said use the back door if you do it that way, or tap into it like i did from the keyless entry module behind the dash. it was a (-) current.

I'm 100% sure it just makes a ground connection when the door is open
also, you could look for these wires in the Timer Control Unit (to the left of the steering column under the dash) or the security unit (right in front of the timer control unit)
