changing Power steering hoses

I was checking all of my fluids the other day and notice that both of my power steering hoses were sweating and wet. I check the power steering resovoir it was low so i filled, but i have no leaks on the ground, so the rack is good i changed that maybe a year ago so that is fine. Needed to know tha procedure am looking thru my manuels for more info. I was going to just re-tighten the clamps first before changing the hoses. Let me know!!

You can try tightening the clamps first, and see if that works. If not, changing them is not hard, just messy. And make sure you get the right pressure hose, if you buy aftermarket.

Try this post: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....power+steering

I might have to re-install mine in the spring because I bet fluid starvation (from not having the bolt lined up) is causing the groaning noise I'm getting.

thanks bman i sent u a e-mail about the size of the 2 pressure hoses underneath the power steering resovoir? I looked thru my chilton and haynes but they didnt touch specific on the changing of them or there sizes. Also, which is the low& high pressure hose? There are 3 hoses: 2 underneath the resovoir, and one running to the rack.

Oh shoot, I didn't know that BOTH of your hoses need replacing. Like most people, I only replaced the high pressure hose that goes from that bracket by the cowl down to the pump. I would just go and buy replacement hoses from an auto parts store, at least for the HP hose for sure.

The circuit goes from the reservoir to the pump, from the pump to the rack, from the rack to the radiator (to cool it) and then back to the reservoir again. Most of it is metal lines like the brakes IIRC and only the HP hose and hose from the reservoir to the pump are flexible. HTH...
