New clutch, What to get?

Hi I'm new to these forums. I got my Maxima about a month ago and love it. The car shutters when taking off from a stop. The shop said it is the clutch starting to go. So, should I stay with a stock clutch or aftermarket. What brand or kind of aftermarket.

It is a stock car and will unfortunently stay stock. My dad wont let me get a turbo or supercharger. He has a supercharger on his truck, but I can't get one. "It's fast enough." Oh well.

aftermarket, exedy... you dont need lots of power to LOVE an aftermarket clutch...I have an exedy, although its the stock replacement, and i love it..
the stage one is gorgeous, and not too expensive, like 250ish... Get one!

I've driven ACT and Exedy stage 1. I preferred the Exedy. They both grab very hard, but the Exedy feels just right..

And yes, by all the means stay away from the KEY VALUE piece of crap kit. I accidently got it, and I HATE IT!

Sorry for the old post bump, but I didn't want to start a new thread about something like this.

Is the Exedy clutch found here the about the same at the Nissan OEM clutch, or should I look for the OEM clutch? Mine is slipping pretty bad when I WOT.

Thanks.

i bought that clutch.....clutch is actually softer than stock. If you drive your car hard i wouldn't get it. I would spend the extra 150 bucks and get a clutch that you will actually enjoy driving with...my preference would be a act hdss 2100

I also recommend the Exedy Stage 1, it was a great clutch but it wasnt holding too well with the nitrous.

I just talked to a guy at south bend clutch, southbendclutch.com, and he said their rally series clutch has 25% more clamping power than oem and it dissapates heat much faster resulting in longer life, and it drives just like stock. he also said that it would be good with mods like exhaust, intake, etc. didnt ask about nitrous, turbo, or supercharger though. for $175 i'm going to try it out. plus it's down the block from me.

OEM 5th gen clutch and pressure plate here (again, NOT Key Value). Just had them installed with fresh master and slave cylinders and stainless steel clutch line, and I am loving it to death. There is NO reason for anything more if your car is unmodded. The 5th gen clutch is made to hold a lot more power in a significantly heavier car, so you will have a ton of headroom.

Hell, even if you had a full intake, exhaust, MEVI, ECU, and other things, it'd still be fine with room to spare.

5th gen setup here as well, and can' say enough about it. It's a great setup, clamps harder than the 4G stock replacement, and you can get it all for under $200. Highly recomended.

NICE, I have a 96 5 spd w/ intake, ypipe and an exhaust and it jerks/vibrates at launch and it slips when i shift to second gear hard. Sometimes it smells funny when i go up a steep hill with plenty of weight on the car.. How would i know exactly what year/model clutch to buy if I want to replace mine with a 5th gen?

You want the clutch and pressure plate from a 2000-2001 Maxima. As far as I know, you can use the throwout bearing from any 1995-2001 Maxima, although you might want to check just to be sure.

Also, plan on getting your flywheel resurfaced as well, just to be sure.

I got my stuff (except for the SS clutch line) from South Point Nissan, through David. He's on the forums as DAVEB, so if you just drop him a PM he will hook you up.

Hands Down the act is better than the clutchmasters, ive driven both and know alot of people that had the clutchmaster and it went out on them after 4 or 5 hard runs on it. I had the act on my 97 and it was perfect for the setup i had, it was tight just like the rest of the car perfect fit

Get an Exedy Stage 1 FTW! If you drive around but occasionally you like to race or go fast. If you want to destroy your tranny go with ACT Stage 2,3 w/e ... seriously go Exedy you have the "power" now go do it.

why would you get a stage 2....people using 100 shot of nitrous only need a stage one....stage one is stronger than oem....

Anyone know if the 5th gen clutches can be mated to a Fidanza? I got a Fidanza flywheel I think its for 3-4gen but I think I'd like to use a 5th gen clutch with it. Thoughts? I've heard the transmissions are quite the same... maybe its just the clutch disc that's heavier duty on the 5gen vs. the 4gen?
