dyno after 5spd swap....WOW! +23hp, +18TQ

I dynoed my car at the first of the month with the auto tranny, and got 181hp and 180tq. I went back today and dynoed 204.2hp and 198.3tq. This was the same dyno, both are SAE corrected and the Correction factor was the same as last time anyway. Only thing changed were the transmission and I swapped my Harlan(POS) for a summit rpm switch. I can't scan the graph till I get home on Monday, but I have the graph of the auto/5spd together is it is unreal how much difference there is. I have over 190whp from 5300rpm till 7000rpm. The torque curve is so flat, I have over 175tq from 2900rpm until 6100rpm. Jay25 and bijan gxe came to watch and we just missed Veetec who was there afterwards. I was pretty excited, and I can't wait for the track to open again. Mods are:

Hybrid JWT Intake
70mm TB
Variable intake
Cattman SS Y-pipe
test pipe
B-pipe (non-mandrel 2.5)
Hooker Muffler
UR Underdrive pulley
JWT ECU (7k)
Stock flywheel/clutch

I hope to do this someday. Although if I could run 14.2 in my auto, I'd be happy. I can't even run 15.2. 181hp? Automatic? What the hell am I doing wrong?

to the crank hes pusing at least 235-240HP.

Nice numbers man I you predicted 190, I said at least 192 and was off by 12HP. Good thing you took it all the way to redline. Congrats. I knew that 7K limiter was really going to help. Makes me want to get that

Wow, so why don't you put your mods on homepage or sig and let us in on your secret. Good job. Did you do the swap urself? So based on your #'s I'd be making about 182WHP and 191WTQ. Man, I wanna swap.

Just curious was your 2.18 on slicks? How the heck did u get so much power and so fast with only a 2.18 60ft time? Congrats! Impressive.

It's very impressive to see you break the 200whp barrier Matt.

It was a much larger gain that I think anyone expected. I can't wait to see you drive a stick at the track when it opens again

no, 2.18 was just regular street tires. That 60 ft time was with the automatic, I haven't run the 5spd at the track yet.

Nice numbers. Too bad they don't have a JWT ECU for 99's. Otherwise I would be modding like a b!tch.

Congrats on the #'s. Now I am interested on seeing how well of a time can be pulled. Your auto times kept getting better and better. Now lets see if the samething happens with jOO and the 5spd.

One thing this shows is 7000 rpm is to low a rev limit when adding those mods to the mix.
What is your peak at?

The peak is right at 6100rpm, it just doesn't fall off very fast afterwards. When I scan my graph I will post it and it is easier to see. It climbs hard all the way to 6100rpm and then kind of levels off afterwards. I am sure it is the cams that are the limit now from keeping it from rising further.

If his 4th gen is like every other 4th gen with the MEVI/JWT, his power should be peaking around 6100rpms and then hold steady till around 6700rpm and then start to drop off. A 7000-7200rpm limiter is pretty ideal. Ideally, you want to be shifting 300-700rpms past peak depending on gear. Since the gear become really long with the 7000rpm limiter, shifting at 7000rpms on the 1-2 and 2-3 are ideal.

96Sleeper:

Didn't you use really short tires at the track with your auto to significantly improve the gearing? Did you use the same short tires at the dyno? Your power gains definately make sense. BSwithTF (Travis) has the exact automatic setup you did and he pulled 182fwhp/180fwtq the same day I pulled 189fwhp/186fwtq with my 5 speed, MEVI, intake, y-pipe, UDP, and muffler. I'd imagine now with my JWT ECU, I'm making close to 200fwhp or about 15-18fwhp than Travis' auto. WHat's amazing is both you guys make the same exact power as autos yet you're .6 and 4-5mph faster than him and he's on drag radials and races every weekend.

The short tires were just for the track on my auto. They will actually hurt the 5spd car, I won't be using them anymore. They definately helped the car at the track though. Between that and the light weight of my car, and the cold weather/well-prepped track probably makes up the difference between our cars. We will see in a few weeks if my car really is faster now.

Wow....200+ whp, nice. From my memory, you're one of the first guys (excluding 3.5) with 200 whp. That's my goal......

You might want to run at least short drag radials (225/50R15, ~24") because the stock gearing with a stock height tire teamed with the MEVI/JWT makes gearing too long. The stock gear is a 3.89 which is great for the 5400rpm peak power of the USIM, but the 3.89 is too high with the 6100rpm power peak which really doesn't fall until 6700rpms+. 24" tires will give the car the equal to around a 4.30 gear which is more ideal in my opinion. This is the setup I'll be running this spring.

The only other 4th gen I know that got 200+whp was Requin6 before he got his SC. He made 201fwhp/195fwtq with just the MEVI, JWT ECU, UDP, intake, and y-pipe.

I have to agree those where some impressive numbers with an automatic and now you have converted to a 5 speed and the numbers are almost to good to be true. Good job. Those are some great numbers again.

Off the subject, how much will it cost to do a 5-spd conversion?
