PLEASE help...to buy or not to buy 99 maxima

hello...

I was thinking of buying this 99 maxima SE that i saw..it had the service engine light on. ..when i took it to maxima dealer for a chekup b4 buying, they said there was a problem with the knock sensor and oxygen sensor and said it wud cost $300CAD for ks and $200 CAD for the o2 sensor to replace them. However, after they reset the service engine light, it didnt come back on when i drove around for a while.....now im thinking is the problem fixed or will it come back.....I really dont wannaa buy a car and pay that much already to get things fixed.....ne suggestions????

If you are slightly mechanically inclined, you can buy the parts online and do it yourself for much cheaper.

I've heard a few times that the 02 sensor code will set off a KS code. Just change the 02 sensor, reset the codes and see if they come back. Could save yourself a chunk of change.

when you reset the ecu without fixing the problem the code will come back after a few hundred miles. get the car if you like it, just offer them less to compensate for the repairs you need to make.

good luck
