Hit snowbank, got a little damage

Today it is about 31 degrees and snowing (meaning slushy and very slippery roads). I tried to pass a slow moving car, and my back end started fish tailing at about 60mph. I thought I pulled out of it, but then it came around and I caught a bank when someone had been pushing snow up from their driveway. The panel above my right front tire is dented in (I can't remember the name of it) and the corner of my headlights are smashed. Thats all the visible damage.

Now when I'm driving, the steering wheel has a little bit of shake to it. The car still tracks straight and the wheel looks fine. I don't know if this is something I didn't notice before or did something to the car. Does anyone know what this might be?

How much do you think it would cost to fix the car? I can't believe it, I've had the car for just over a month and already crashed it. I got really lucky though, if my front end had been just a foot farther off the road, it would have smacked a telephone pole.

I guess my dad isn't too mad about it. He's still at work and can hardly talk because of his cold, so that's good. He can't yell at me for a few days at least. I think Insurance will cover it, but the rates will probably skyrocket since I'm only 17.

Dude, dont go through insurance....go to your local Certifit dealer and pickup a fender for $33, and corner light for $20, bring it to any shop and have them prime and paint it and you can put it on yourself. if you are low on funds, tell maaco to paint it...I find it hard to think they could screw up a small project like just a fender. Installation is easy also

If you put in a claim, you will then understand how insurance companies screw people. They'll raise your rates and you'll end up paying many hundreds if not thousands extra over the next few years for a few hundred dollars worth of claim.

It doesn't look too hard to fix. I just looked at it again, and the foglight is cracked and pushed in too. I'm not sure what up with the steering wheel vibration though.

I had the same thing happen on my right side fender, I went to car-part.com and found a fender that matched my paint code and got it for 125 with shipping and I installed it myself. piece of cake if you have some metric sockets and a garage. It took me about 3 hours, being careful. Good Luck

all i see right now are red x's, but without seeing the pics, if the car still tracks straight, but you have some vibration, you may have some snow packed in the wheel. check it out...

Yeah I hit a snowbank too, but I had no damage.. http://homepage.mac.com/phatmax95/vi...Theater67.html

I had ALOT of vibration after that.. but the next day after the snow melted everything was ok so it might just be some snow packed somewhere like said above..

Definantly get a aftermarket fender or get it from a junkyard thats an easy fix, don't go thru insurance.

I ended up getting a good deal on some Z3 style fenders off ebay. My blinker lights are cracked too, so I gonna replace them with clear corners. Now I have to get a new window washer resivour. It was crushed behind the fender. That sure is a pain not being able to clean the salt off my windows.
