Custom exhaust ?

Today my friend told me he was getting his old cavvilier (his beater car) dualed for well under $200 ($180 if i remember right) with his own tips though. There are a verry reasonable shops in the area. probably because alsost any one with a truck under the age of 25 has duals, and they make good $.

This got me thinkin...
I have always wondered what it would be like with an exhast cutout (the $40 ones with the pull cord) after the ypipe. How do you think this would sound? would it be raspy and hella loud?
I wouldnt mind the loud part (cus I could turn it back at any time) but The tone worries me.
I get enought crap for haveing a Japanese car from all my friends with trucks (that is untiill I give em a ride and show em what she can do )
Has anyone done this?
Sound clip?

The other option I was thinking of is just getting it strait piped or custom cat back from one of these shops. The thing is I have neibors that will b!tch and I think it would get anoying on long car rides. (I always hear cars on the highway and it is annoying just to be next to them)

I think the exhaust cutout would be nice because I can turn it on or off, It would be prob. cheaper, plus the whole sleeper thing.

maybe I could get it out the sides with nother pipe?
just thinkin

Tell me if Im retarded

Check out this video, the highway shots and at the very end have the exhaust removed after the stock y-pipe.

Mine sounded like a Mustang, actually the guy who helped me unbolt it had a Mustang. It sounded good, it did get annoying on the highway tho..

I know BUT right how straight piped (done by a friend for free + $20 tip)
sounds suprisingly deep and good. I actually wish mine sounded like that.

This is his beater car, it is a joke to all of us. That cars E-Brake has gotten ALOT of use
He only has it till summer when he is plannin on getting a 99 chevy truck.
he will keep it as a boozer cruizer and so he can still beat the **** out of it.

It will be a $180 joke yes, But I guess if its worth that to him...

if you buy a cutout there is the problem of where to place it. the best place would be before the cat...however all aftermarket y pipes have a flex section there and basically no room to install a cutout. at least as far as i have seen. you could do 2 cutouts on each of the downpipes...that would be neat. oh and get an eletronic cutout they are worth the extra cash.you would basically have a button that would make your car damn loud...i think you should just buy a full y + catback combo...

Would it make a difference (fitment) if i kept my stock y pipe?

and for $200 less than electrical cutout I could pull a small button and have a damn loud car.
