Where can I buy a limited slip diff. to put in my 95 Maxima? I hate only having 1 wheel peels. Also where do I install the unit and how hard is it to install. Any help will be good.

 

I have emailed phantom grip about their product. does anyone have an opinion on the phantom grip lsd ?

Wait wait wait....only 1 wheel spins on the normal american 5-speed trannys while burning the tires?

 

Ok.. I recommend the Quiafie Diff. Cattmanperformance have this. The unit is about $1400.

As for installation:

Step1: Pull down the transmission.
Step2: Open and Dis-assemble the transmission.
Step3: Remove the stock differential and unbolt the final drive gear.
Step4: Attach and bolt up the final drive gear to the new LSD.
Step5: Reassemble transmission.
Step6: Attach transmission to engine Block.

This is not a One day job. Lots of work is envolved. But the rewards are worth it in the end.

Search around the junkyards for a VLSD transmission...

Do a search on www.car-part.com for a transmission with a 'locking differential'. They still have a few listed.

Just make sure they verify that it actually is a VLSD tranny before they ship it.

 

Phantom Grip's parts are fine. But they require you to disassemble your diff and install their parts which is where most of the problems related to their product comes in. If exact tolerances aren't meet, the thing obviously won't work well. And their instructions are iffy.

Stillen's use Phantom Grip parts. Don't ask me how I know this, but I do. We used to supply Stillen with their diffs, but no longer do. Their new supplier is using Phantom Grip stuff.

 

Personally, I would rather get a used locking diff tranny than pay through the nose for the aftermarket unit.

But are there things to be weary of when buying a used locking diff tranny? Are there parts on the diff that would likely need rebuilding/replacing?

Although the Quaife is best for my needs the VLSD was a major improvement. Really does great in the snow and ice. Dry corners too. Can be scary on wet though as it exhibits a bit of torque steer.
