LSD transmission- almost free

So to make a long story short.. i dropped off my 99 gle at the dealership to get the tranny replaced. (under warranty) They call me and tell me thay are ordering a brand new transmission from nissan. Cool enough. I get a call two days later telling me they received the wrong transmission...yadda yadda. So a week later i go to pick up my car. The service manager explains to me that they received the wrong tranny, that it was a limited slip differential unit. I just start laughing... I told him that I wish I could have been told that was the problem. So that's how I came that close to scoring a *****in' transmission. Oh well, the new tranny is fine... i guess.

What went wrong with your tranny?

It was wearing out in general. The plates were still fine I think but the shifting was getting slow. I had to give it a little help in order to make it go completely...

130k is pretty impressive. 200k... i dunno.... Do you do regular maintenance on your tranny? Are you running a cooler?

No coolers here - regular fluid changes ( i need to drop the pan for first time pretty soon though )

I drive her very " easy " no hard acceleration or downshifting.

Nick.

Does the auto come with LSD on a 4th gen? Did it ever come on a 4th gen, any year? I know the Canadians got that crap on the 5spd but on the auto? I'm looking at edmunds and the 5spd is standard on I30Ts with the LSD but the auto doesn't mention LSD. Weird.

Some auto I30s here in the states came with lsd, it had to do with the winter package available on them. Alot of autos from canada (maxima) came with lsd, so yes its out there, more common and cheaper than the VLSD 5 speed.

All of the auto 4th gens that I have seen in Canada (I live in Toronto) have an open differential.

I have the LSD on my 5spd and I still have staction issues, it must really suck to have the open diff

Are you asking if you have an LSD tranny? I can't find info specifically for a Maxima right now, but I have a FSM for my old Infiniti G20. If the number on the transaxle ends in "V", it's a Viscous Limited Slip Differential. The number is located on the tranny bellhousing as well as on the firewall info plate. If the number ends in "A", it slips a lot more
