First time I've seen the 3rd gen digital dash

It even has the heads up display. Cool.

My Mom has a 1991 Jimmy 4x4 for us 'kids' to drive, I dont drive it much because I've got the max and the mustang, lol, plus 2 sisters who are driving who dont have their own car.

Anyway, I hate it, it has a Digital dash, its slow, and its really hard to get used to it telling you the speed. Now I've gotten used to it (or more specifically just not caring enough about how fast I'm going, lol), when you drive a car with one for the first time it is extremely hard to get used to it because instead of having the reference points with standard analog gauges, you have to comprehend the numbers the digital one spits out. Even the digital 'graph' ones are crap because they take forever to react. If I had them in the maxima, if it was idling and i nailed the gas, by the time it hit the rev limiter it would say 2300-3000rpms or so, then by the time the engine went down to idle again it would be at 4300-4700ish on the way up to redline, lol.

They are sweet for the coolness factor, but otherwise, no thanks IMHO.

My 1988 Maxima had one (so I have seen one, just not in a 3rd gen). It was different than the 3rd gen one, as it had a number readout for the km/h, but a bar graph (not a straight up and down graph, but more of a curved line like a horsepower chart). I actually found it to be quite accurate, but that's typical when comparing an import to a domestic.

That's true about imports - my JDM NX1600 had digital dash & was 100% accurate - best thing was seeing how fast you could go in reverse

Mine works/worked just fine for speed,
the tach was however rather pointless.

Just another electrical connection to go bad if you ask me. Sure it might be a novelty but that novelty wear's off real fast when the bill to fix the thing comes to over a grand. There have been a couple of posts in the past of people having to pay a fortune to get their dash's fixed. I say keep it simple.

Agree with keeping it simple - and if those people paid over a grand to get the dash fixed, man, did they get ripp'd!
I got used to the digidash in my NX1600 - only thing it was missing was a clock, which I duly modded from a N12 Pulsar and installed like it was factory original (FYI: clocks were part of the factory radios & we all know what happens to factory radios...)

I test drove a cadi devile that had one. Needless to say the digi dash was messed up and the stupid spedometer kept jumping through the numbers from 20-80 constantly, it was impossible for me to tell how fast i was going. I can see stuff like that breaking easy.

...a product of shoddy American design & workmanship, poor management & ultra conservative, militant UAW members (the Brits went thru the same thing from late 60s up to the mid-80s). Much has changed over the past 5-10 years & both the US & UK can now produce cars as good as the Japanese. Just seen a Cadi STS (a rare beast in NZ) and that's one nice looking car.
