Porting out Throttle body, have question?

Porting out Throttle body, have question?

I just started looking into this (friends suggestion) and wanted to see what the anyone thought.

I believe our stock throttle body is 60mm and was told to bore or port it to 63mm or 64mm.

Can you guys shed some light on the pros and cons of doing this mod.

Wouldn't this be pointless unless you also get a bigger butterfly plate? You can bore it out before the plate and after the plate but the airflow coming in would still be the same since the butterfly opening the same size. Am I right? Or would the butterfly plate not even matter since you can change the idle with the IACV screw? Sorry to write all this Ceasar but I was planning on doing the same thing. I don't see any cons to this anyway, only maybe if you made the whole thing bigger and the air would go around the plate and the IACV couldn't correct it.

If you really want a larger TBj ust go with the pathfinder throttle body. You will get 10 extra mm instead of 2 or 3.

He'll need to make his own mounting bracket for that. New hoses and I think even new throttle cables. I don't think the dude that did this made any templates or anything. The PF TB is huge but costs A LOT more.

you may also have a tough time installing the Pathfinder TB because its hard to match the voltage for wiring of TPS

My TPS is fine my throttle cable is still stock as my vacumm hoses. Just need adapter plate and bottom plate if 95-96 and 97-99 just need main adapter plate . My plate is 3/8 inch thick aluminum make it any thicker and you will have issues.
I sold them to mike recently if he doesnt mind maybe he could post pics to help you guys out.
Another thing is if you guys ever have plans to put a 2000 manifold on the pathfinder TB is useless ,because you cant port match the 2000 manifold.I will have my adapter block turned out about 65 mm and use the venturi effect. Kind of like a funnel after the TB.

it's not really an expensive mod at all. It's gonna cost me less than $200 for everything. having a shop do porting is expensive.

i have a stock throttle body laying around that has been mildly ported, polished, and the lower butterfly rod has be trimmed off. Send me a PM if you want it cheap Ceasar. I don't think it will give gains like a Pathfinder TB, but its better than stock.

I tried a 64mm one last year and didn't show much dyno gain so I went back to stock.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....light=throttle

IMO the 70mm PF solution is a much better investment. I just can't do it to my ride

out of curiosity, what years pathfinder throttle bodies would be "compatible" for a 95 max SE?

only the 2001 3.5 is 70mm and can be adapted to fit.

So if you have to have an adapter plate...hmmm...I assume no one makes one that'd be useable for a Maxima. It'd be nice of someone to make a template for others to use

I think your gains would be minimal...3-5 horsepower if you are lucky... but at the sametime, that is 3-5 horsepower!

Definate throttle response gains but no valid dyno proof. Last dyno I got was questionable STD not SAE. I spent lots of time checking the conversion factors but still looked like a net of -3.5hp and +3.2tq using 64mmTB, EHd intakes, and a new Ypipe flex. I basically dismissed the pulls and just keep moddin.

when i had mine done .. it was port and polished.. i think it just reduces the drag, so as you modd more it will start to show some benefits... especially when you go FI

should this be ? +3.5hp and +3.2tq

if not thats a crazy gain a small decrease in hp and a small increase in torque

Well the gains from a pathfinder TB must be awesome if Krismax is making almost 200FWHP without a MEVI!!!

Big D you are right in saying this.

Have any of you ever thought of the 90-92 pre-trac control Q45 TB's? It's a whopping 85mm. If somebody could get this monster to fit and fab up a kit for cheap i'd definately be in for one of those.

He dynoed on a dynapack, not a dynojet. They always read high, so you can't compare directly.

Even if the numbers are higher than they should be, the fact that he has more HP than TQ says alot because that is usually unheard of without a MEVI.

I don't think TBs will do much for our NA 4th gens. Most other NA cars on the market are lucky to see 2-3 peak hp with a larger TB. I'm talking about Hondas, GMs, other Nissans, Fords, BMWs, etc. The 60mm TB on the 4th gen is the same size as the one used on the 4.6 SOHC Mustang V8. I think 60mm is probably plenty. The reason guys feel better throttle response with the 70mm TBs is because more air is coming introduced at every throttle input compared to the 60mm TB. Just because the TB is bigger doesn't mean the engine can use it. Bigger is not always better. If that was the case we'd all be running 80mm TBs and 4" bus exhausts.

You can make a throttle plate out of a piece of copper sheet.

You gonna port the MAF also? Otherwise it's not worth. If you do then good luck recalibrating the MAF sensor signal to the ECU. Maybe work with Jim Wolfe?

The day i dynoed ,i dynoed in the middle of 15 350 z's. Some stock 3 supercharged one guy paul from avalon racing was putting down almost exactly what he did on a dynojet a few days before. One stock one put out 228 rwhp , most in the mid 230's .
I guess then those #'s are to high to then.

The maf is already 70 mm or more.
When a b-16 honda goes to the type -r TB ,there is about a gain of 7 fwhp

Just port your stocker. Cheap and effective. Yes there is the arguement on if the butterfly plate diameter doesnt change then it doesn't do any good, but my experience has been otherwise.
