WarpSpeed Y-pipe....fact or fiction?

Guys

WarpSpeed sells the following y-pipe on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2459828850

As you can see, they claim that it will add 15-18hp to a stock exhaust....is that for real? I know many of you have those, so let me know what you have found in your experience. Thanks all!

15-18 is a very optimistic estimate. more like 5-8

Yeah, I have a cattman and there is improvement, but I don't think it is more than 10 hp, more like 5-8 like Matt said. Even combined with a pop charger (which I put on after the y), I doubt if it's more than 15.

why does the auction description say this,

"The easiest way to tell which engine you have for the 1992-1994 Maxima is that the single tip muffler is a sohc VG engine, the twin tip is the dohc VE engine"

i have a 1990SE and it's a twin tip muffler...but its a VG!

The real benefit in the y-pipe probably isn't the extra horse power but in the change of the power band it provides. The VG is a dog up high and great down low. For me the pipe took a little from the bottom and put it at the top of the power curve.

If I remember I'm pretty sure the guy's at warpspeed have dyno'd those numbers and although I think they are a bit on the high side I think 10-15 is not that far off.

These things have been well talked about on this board so if you poke around you can find plenty of info on them.

Misinformation.

Here's the best way to tell the difference between a SE and GXE, FYI

Look at the statement again.. It's 100% correct.
(I've highlighted the part you ignored...)

this sounds right on the money. i have the warpspeed y and it is great. it does sort of redistribute the hp with throwing in a little extra, too. qualitatively, it makes a sizable difference in throttle response particularly down low and high. go with CAI, too, at the same time of upgrade.

oh, yes. and about ebay. by now, i have seen that any type of "power mod" for a car will be highly over-hyped and falsely represented: like the "electric supercharger" fan gismo that looks like a cracker-jack treat for ten cents. they claim that it adds unfathomable horsepower. remember that one?

and the "cefiro projectors that fit the maxima." seen that one by now?

a good "ebay axiom" is >>> if the ad claims that something is extremely effective and powerful and is a direct bolt-on, then it is not!

i'm serious.

I beleive the 15-18 hp gain but it at the crank not at the wheels so do the math. I car cruises much faster at a lower RPM now with the y then before with the stock. It is all about high end power.
