I LOVE the fact that my Max hauls a** and is whisper quiet.
Can anyone recommend a way to get a cone filter/intake setup that does not get too loud?
I hear everyone say that the cone filters aren't loud if you keep your foot off the throttle, but you gotta understand....my damn foot is always stomped on the gas pedal. I once had to go see the foot doctor because I thought that my right foot weighed too much. (He said that this was not the case).

Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated (as always).

Thanks

MJ

I really don't think that is possible with a cone filter. However, I've heard of some people modifying their stock intake unit to provide the same amount of HP as a cone filter would without having to take out the stock air box. Ask around.

do a search for poor man's cai or oscai or svcai. it bypasses the lower resonator with an additional hose creating a ram air effect. daniel b martin has it done on his car

oscai suggestion

Hey mad jap,

If you are going to try the poorman's intake here's an idea for you. I am going to try myself this week on my days off. Lightning audio makes something called an Aeroport which is basically a port for speaker boxes, however, the unique thing aboout them is that they have heavily flared ends to them. I was thinking that by putting that on the end of the hose it would act like a velocity stack and increase the ram air effect. Also rather than running the hose to the fender area, I was thinking that you could cut out a hole on the plastic skid plate directly underneath. Cut out and mount the flared end to the skid plate with screws and glue or both. This way when you're cruising along the air traveling under the car should get sucked right in. Also to help minimize engine compartment heat, wrap pipe insulation tape around the hose. I guess the only drawback to this might be that you could suck in some water if you are going through a deep puddle. I will posts results on how this works out for me later this week.

you mean like this?

Forgive my poor attempt at drawing. wouldn't it be pretty hard for water to travel that far up? and won't the scoop scrape or disintegrate if your front bottoms out?

hes talking about mounting the port flush with the bottom so its at a 90 deg. not facing forward but straight down flush

i dont see how that would do well in sucking in air. maybe if you mount it at a 45 degree angle and let just the scoop stick out a little bit, that would probably work. now, i just gotta find somewhere to buy that scoop.

You can buy the Aeroport from Crutchfield for about $18.00.
