unusual clutch pb, please help
unusual clutch pb, please help
The clutch on my 92 SE manual does not disengage I cannot put any gears in but the hydraulic is doing fine, no leaks, fluid level at max, pedal acts normaly and I checked the slave cylinder while someone else pushed down the pedal, I can see the rod coming out and pushing the clutch fork. Before things got in this state there was one time when I could not put any gears in, but somehow it recovered.
Also, 50000 miles ago I had the same problem and had to replace the clutch. The throw bearing got stuck and was all chewed up. How could something like this happen ?. Is the pb in the transmission ?
As if that was not enough I also have a loud knocking noise which seems to come from the front part of the engine (loud enough to be heard from drive seat with stopped car). It is not affecting performances at all and is heard only at low rpm. I notice that while waiting on traffic light the noise fluctuates and might occasionaly completely disappear for several minutes but always comes back. It is like a bad diesel engine. I have read about noisy VTC, could this be it ?

clutch is most likely TO bearing or clutch itself...
turn the car off and see if it goes into gear easier. if so, then your TO bearing is probably shot (again)
what brand did you use when you swapped it last time?
I've seen a few brands that are total, complete CRAP.
the engine noise is most likely VTC tick.

My clutch did similar thing but only when it warmed up when it was below freezing outside I was able to at least shift. Once it got warmer out I couldn't get in gear at all. Mechanic said it was probably the pressure plate. Clutch I had them put in was a Exedy stage 1 clutch seems ok so far although it has a girly feeling pedal to it but it grabs really well.
It goes into any gear easily with engine turned off.
I think the mechanic used OEM parts, I am going to check the receipt.
He also change the 'pins' in the clutch too. what are these ?
