Ticking under the hood

I have this ticking noise coming from under my hood, sounds almost like its coming from the top of the engine ? any ideas what it could be ?

IAC Valve. Check Sticky's for write up on how to clean it.

Injectors or valves. Don't worry, they all do that.

To isolate the sound, get a 3 foot rubber hose and stick one end of it in your ear. Then you can aim the other end at particular engine parts to listen to them carefully.

yeah mine does that too, to stop the ticking you have to replace the listers which to my knowledge cost about $25.00 each and multiply it by 24 valves and it equals to $600.00 plus labor DOHH!!!!

Dont worry, a bad KS would not make the engine tick.

yeah I got that noise too but it's fine because every freaken maxima that I hear at my work does that. The other thing that puzzles me is when I stop I hear this crazy ticking noise, it does it when I have my foot on the brake. I drove couple of maximas at my work and they all make the same noise, wtf is that thing?

i think he meant lifters? But I'm not sure. Mine does it too and my mechanic said not to worry about it because cost to repair is prohibitive!

Sorry, I was just being a polite sounding a$$. There are some "things to try" if you want, but I don't know if I'd do them myself. First, not too dangerous, you can try a heavier oil for a short period of time, weather permitting (you know, winter in the midwest, not smart running a 10W) or next, more risky, you can try the "substitute a quart of trans fluid for a quart of oil" on your next oil change and run that for a little bit. Both of these are things that people do, NOT what I'm recommending. Just thought I'd mention them.
