Rear suspension question

A few weeks ago I started noticing a weird noise coming from the rear of the car. Since then I've noticed the it happensm ostly when I'm turning left (ie. the car's weight has transfered to the right side). I've since taken my rear wheels off to see what was wrong.

1. I noticed the boots (whatever they're called) are torn on both rear struts.

2. The struts seem to be pretty clean when I look at the part that the boot is supposed to be covering.

3. I noticed a small bearing/bushing on the passenger side of the car, which isn't there on the driver's side. What is this part, and could it be the culprit?

Thanks guys.

Damn I should have taken a pic...

The driver's side didn't actually have a place to put that bearing on.. It's actually attached to the axle itself, towards the middle fo the car behind the shock/strut, but I don't know what the heck it does.

Here's a pic from my Hayne's manual: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/528841

Towards the right of the picture, right where #4 would bolt to the axle (I guess, but there's one on the left too?).

How old is the suspension? It could be the spring squeaking if the spring isolators are missing or torn

I had noise from the rear when I was turning after I had installed a new suspension, and it turned out to be that the rear passenger side wasn't seated properly.

I bought the car a few months ago. Never changed them myself. The struts seem to have some rust on them so they may be busted.

By the way, I've ruled out a loose spare tire, loose jack, loose keyless module, loose speakers... Pretty much everything except the strut, shock and that bearing thing.
