oil leak...

hello, im new here. heres my prob: I just bought a 97 maxima se with 55000 on it. For all i know its been running on dino oil since day 1, i decided to change that and put in mobil 1 syn. A few days later started leaking oil, coming from above the oil filer, i took it back to the dealer and they said it was the oil pan and the oil switch, so they replaced that, took it home and the next morning before i went to work i peeked under the car and yep there it was, the oil leak still there
It seems that the max leaks oil when i drive for a little while and park it. Took it back to the dealer today. Anybody have the slightest idea what it could be? its driving me nuts. thanks..

I cant be much help here sincy my 200K plus max has always had the cheapest oil oi could find in it. But if you had the dealer supposedly fix it and they didnt, I would take it back and let them know they apparently arent any good at fixing the cars they sell, but you'll give them a second chance to really find out where the leak is, otherwise you want your money back from the service that was apparently not needed.

Definitely take it back and have them look at it again. If they were smart enough to at least wipe the engine free of the old leaked oil, they should be able to trace the new trail back to the current culprit.

On another note, this is possibly an example of the debate about switching to synthetic with higher than like new miles. I know I'm probably opening a can of worms here but, one supposed possible consequence of switching to synthetic is that the synthetic will wash away all the "dino" deposits, to put it simply, left it worn parts of the engine. The deposits keep the oil from leaking, whether it be interally or externally. When the synthetic is used, those deposits wash away and the leaking begins.

you might want to tell them to check the timing cover....if leaks if from there it'll be expensive to fix i think dealer would charge around 1k or more to fix....
