Service Engine Soon/Odometer Link?

I have a 1998 Infiniti i30 and it is @ 74,328 miles. The service engine soon light has come on and I was wondering if there is any link between that light and the odometer? In other words does the factory set this light to come on at any set mileage? Thanks for any info that can be provided.

I don't think an SES turns on at any set mileage with no indication of malfunction detected by ECU, although the term "Service Engine Soon" is a little confusing, IMO.

So I can assume that there is something wrong if this light comes on? I just want to make sure that I will not get screwed when I go to the dealer.

Why go to the dealer......look in the 4th gen forum at the top. There is a sticky that will tell you how to pull the SES (CEL) and what it means. Most problems are cheap easy fixes.
