December 1, 2003 was the day I gave my car in to be painted. I just purchased my 95 Maxima SE with 115,000 for $3,000. 1 Owner, the works. The beige paint annoyed me so I decided to get it done Jet Black since I needed a paint job badly. I live in Brooklyn, NY so finding a reliable painter is hard. I decided to go to Maco. I got their supreme package and the total was $1,400 with 2 accident repairs (front passanger fender & rear driver fender). Anyway...

4 Days later I picked her up. She looked beautiful, i mean WOW. Took her home and everything. The next day I realized there were 2 paint leaks by both of the rear door handles. Also the "i" in Maxima was replaced by a broken in half "u". I called them up, and they told me they will fix everything up in a few months once the paint dries as long as I come with a reciept. So I decided to call them tomorrow and make an appoitment.

Before I do that, I jus want to know if anyone had past experience with Macco since I got a 2 year warranty with my package and how can I take that to my advantage the most... since to be honest with you after looking at my car for some time... the paint job isint that great.

The body work is amazing, and the scratches on bumpers and stuff thats mine. However the fact that some parts are painted to an extend that it looks like sandpaper painted black. That shows its their fault. My question to all of you guys is how do i go about gettin something out of the insurance.

 

Macco sux...i had bought a stillen GTZ front bumper from my 300zx a couple of years ago. I had them install it and paint it. When i got the car back the paint job was horrible. The paint started chipping and it was different from the car's orginial paint. I took it back, they said that it was hard for them to replicate the color of the car because it was not one of their colors in the color chart. I got stiffed. MACCO IS BULLSH!T...unfortunately you get what you pay for.

 

Macco Sucks... i got that down, but does anyone know how I can take advantage of the warranty I got?

 

Good old orange peel and runs. They are from improper techniques (temperature, spray pattern, poop prep). This could have been wet sanded out before the clear was put on. Macco is real Getto... the paint starts to peel off since they dont use or do the proper steps to ensure a lasting job. Just have them fix it the best they can and pray it goes to crap with in the 2 years.

$1400 included the paint job and 2 pretty bad accident repairs as i mentioned in the first post.

 

Did they strip all the old paint off or just sprayed it on top of the old paint?

 

i believe its a 1-2 year warranty, not too sure, but maaco is a ****.ty place to take your princess to.

 

I did macco as well and Well Like everyone has said you get what you paid for. Take a look at my site third page and see the bumper. They don't warrent bumpers, so see what will happen in a couple of months. The quality of the paint reflects the quality of their warrenty. You may and will have to fight to get them to do right. I had them redo the car twice, had legal action threaten against them and for what? For a paint job that should of been done right the first time. Give then a chance to fix it then, get legal consule or cut your losses. But the most important thing is to contact the better bussniess buro ( spellings off I know) and let them know. I have learned to deal with it and take it for what it worth. To anyone never ever use macco for your car. It's just not worth it.

 

A $1400 paint job with body work?

Bottom line, you got what you paid for.

FYI: My shop offers a lifetime warranty (as long as you own the vehicle) against paint and body work defects. 2 years is a joke, that's right about the time when the tape lines will start to peal back. A tape line is where they mask things off instead of removing them for seamless paint. Thats what makes a quality paint job. Along with good prep work, quality paint products and a wet sand and buff for that glass like finish.

Maaco is a chop shop and their work can be spotted by any quality shop. Stop by my shop and I'll show you what a show room paint job looks like and whats involved to achieve it.

Your problem is Macco. You should have waited and did some research to find a reputable body shop. Live and learn.

 

as long as you have warranty, you are ok. However, in a month or two, you will notice paint chipping off!

We have an old 89 celica that we got painted from celica to gunmetal gray... it looks good so far, but we have noticed some paint chips. they say they will fix it, but it's damn annoyin!

I can't believe they replaced your letter "I" with a broken "U" from another car !!!! I heard Maaco was shoddy but I didn't know they were that blatant !!!


I would try to make them give you the money back instead of making them "fix" it. I would pass on any place that quotes you under $3,000 for a whole car.

 

with macco you really get what you paid for. thier work is only 1 step above doing it yourself with spraypaint.

 

lol, if you go for their $200 ambassador paint, then yeah. It costs more to get cans from paintscratch.com to do it yourself than Maaco's $200 paint job!

 

yea, my friend was gonna get that for his '78 f-150 but then we decided to do it ourselves and save $150

 

Your officially a dum@ss. JK. But really, you should know better. I should talk. I did the same thing. Paid the same amount and everything. One month later I was in an accident and had the whole thing done again in clear this time. $1400 is only a single stage paint as supposed to a color/clearcoat or even 3 stage. It looks great for a little bit. But after a year of that **** it looks like @sshole and even a really nice buffing can't make it shine.

My 99 Max's paint is in good shape still, but a few dings here and there. The clearcoat is still ok, but over the years the swirls/scratches have taken their toll. Even after numerous polishings over the years by machine (I used to detail cars), its gotten better but I wanted to know if the clearcoat could be refreshed.

How much would you charge for example to mask the entire car and re-clear coat it? Is this something that is typically done? I figure it would be cheaper than painting?

 

I'd Go There In Person, Talk To The Manager And Tell Them Its Unacceptable And Needs To Be Fixded Right Away Or U Want The Money Back. Waiting For An Apointment When They Did Something Wrong Is Just A Joke.

 

Sorry to say this but you get what you pay for. You could have went to a private owned father/son shop and got a better job done for a better deal.

 

Damn...1400 dollars for a Maaco paint job?? Maaco does NOT do good paint work...I wouldn't let them touch my car much less pay 1400 for it. That sucks dude...good luck with getting them to fix the problems...I wouldn't count on that paint job looking too good for too long...

EDIT: Yea...wait...they freekin replaced the I with a U from another car? Are you kidding me? I can't even imagine how the paintwork must be if they are doing that blatant of a shoddy job on stuff you'll actually notice...

 

u should of posted up here and asked us about Maaco b4 u painted, ive seen alot of paint jobs done by Maaco b4 and i did not like none

 

You better read the fine print on that warranty. I believe they break the coverage down to specific problems, fading, cracking, peeling. I think you'll find that your 2 year warrany is actually a 6 month/1 year/2 year warranty, depending on what goes wrong with the paint. I feel your pain, I had them paint one of my past cars...never again. Good luck to you and your Max.

Guys the thing is the paint job is NOT that bad. I am no expert and i dont have a $5,000 bmw paint job, but for what I paid for, I am VERY satsfied. I mean I'm only 18 and thats all i could afford at that time, especially after spending so much on the sound system. Aside from that I am still in the 90 day area, so what should I do. Any chance i can complain to get it redone for the hell of it. I mean it wouldnt hurt to get another coat on would it?

 

You should have just left it beige. Crapped up stock paint will be better than any Maaco job. Maybe not now, but wait 6 months and we'll see.

Personally I would just try to cajole them into fixing whatever is wrong and then start saving for a new paintjob.

I took my LED mirror covers to Maaco for them to paint. They screwed those up.

I am leading all of your solution on the wrong path. Monday I am comming in so that they shave my trunk. There is nothing wrong with the paint so that I have to rip my hair out. All i'm saying is nothing is perfect, and everything could use an improvement. So I just wanted to know if anyone had any past experiences with macco so that they could help me get a freebie out of the warranty. Thats all.

 

if you guys are **** about your paint, garage it. i have a 7 year old car that has been garaged for most of its life and the paint is nearly flawless. exposing your ride to the elements really does take its toll.
