Help. Idle fluctuates, car misfires, but runs good??

HI,

It's been about two weeks that my Max is having the following problems.

Idle fluctuates. When I start it in the morning and sometimes when I put in gear, the car turns off (happened only 2 times). Also, the car is misfiring. When you go to the back of the car near the exhaust, you car hear small bangs and smells like the engine is not working properly. The sound is very low not like some old VW bugs where it scares the **** out of you on the street. I'm thinking maybe MAF is going bad??

Please note the car does not hesitate when driven and there doesn't seem to be a loss of power. I can still beat the **** out of others on the freeway

Things recently changed to resolve this issue but problem persists:

New NGK V power plugs
New cap and rotor

THANKS FOR ANY HELP

sounds like a miss. have you pulled the wires on at a time to find the bad cylinder(s)
and then come to the realization that it is your injectors.

Does it only happen at an idle? If so there is a Idle Air Control Valve. This controls idle speed and the amount of air that bypasse the throttle valve.

only weird thing (on my car) is it will miss (even when revving to 3000 rpm) when cold but once it warms up a little (guage doesn't even need to move) it runs like a champ.

my old ve used to have a slight miss at idle also. you could here it in the exhaust (put......put......put.....put) but it wasnt the same miss that i got when an injector would die (vibration at idle and pretty severe loss of power)so im not sure

you dont mention replaceing the plug wires. have you and if so when

Actually I haven't done so lately. Could it be wires?? I got Bosch which I purchased I would say 2+ yrs ago. I guess that would be my next thing I need to get but I can't afford to spend $70+ for wires. Do you know of an alternative??
thanks
