you need to fill your engine mounts with polyurethane or something else.....alternatively, you could the place racing mounts, but they make you car idle really rough i hear and considering you just replaced your current mounts, you shouldn't get new ones again, just fill 'em...

By having the mounts replaced, do you mean with OEM ones, or the PR mounts? If you still get wheel hop with the PR mounts, I would think something is wrong. If you replaced them with stock mounts...then get the PR mounts if it bothers you that much.

stiffer shocks can make a lot of difference. At the track when I have my kybs adjust at 1 on the front, I get some mean wheel hop almost thought the whole first gear. Then I set them at 4 and there is no wheel hop

If you only get most of your wheel hop on slick surfaces, then just be a little more careful. Remember that quick acceleration on a wet surface is nearly impossible regardless of what you drive. Wheelhop on a wet surface just isn't a Maxima thing. My 94 Z28 did, my 90 CRX Si did it (horribly), my 86 Honda Accord, my fathers old 96 Tahoe, and even his 04 Sienna.

What about those lower braces too that somebody was offering?

Oh, and if you still have your old engine mounts and they're in good condition let me know. I just picked up my 80shore urethane today and will have extra after I fill mine.

what about on dry asphalt? I have somewhat sticky tires (yoko es100) and I tried to launch and ended up burning out a bit but the car started jumping and shaking up the dash and I can hear some banging so is that normal? It got the tires smoking a little tho. Stock tires I can spin them to redline and not shake the car at all.

thats not good, it is normal tho, my car used to do it, it did it more with the old mounts, with the mounts replaced it doesnt do it anymore. the banging and breaking is wheel hop and its terrible on the trans and the car itself.

wasn't there something about putting erasors in your engine mounts a while back (you know the pink ones you used to use in elementary school) i tried it, but can't fit any in the mounts...they just won't go, either the mod is BS or im trying to put them in wrong....they say you can do it without taking your mounts off if you oil up the erasors first...has anyone else tried this? did it work?

i do slip the clutch but when i dont do that i get hop on wet surfaces, if i do, i still get hop on wet surfaces, not on dry. as far as erasers in the mounts, that won't work cuz they wear out so quickly

I get wheel hop too. I don't get it on dry surfaces anymore after I replaced the tires, but I do still have it sometimes in the rain, but I try not to go WOT when the weather is bad I think lower tire pressure will give you more "contact" with the ground, but worse gas mileage. I get better gas mileage at 35psi than at 29psi (factory setting).

Wheel hop is something that is just inherent to FWD... you can never stop it, you can just decreaseit.

Thats why I am building a RWD beater... Befor my max, I had a modded 300zx... RWD no wheel hop there...

Actually on a slick surface, you can get wheel hop in a rwd with independent rear suspension. I used to get it all the time in an older Toyota Supra I used to have.

Under identical conditions wheel hop is much more prevalent in a fwd. It is merely a function of traction and spring rates. Because of the weight transfer to the rear, when launching, our available traction is reduced whereas for a rwd it is increased.

has anyone done the erasor trick on their mounts? did it work? how did you fit the erasors and how many did you need? was it hard? the search function as you all know doesn't work, so I can't view the thread of the past regarding the subject....where can I buy poly urethane and how much would I need if I wanted to filll my mounts? is there anyway to do this while the mounts are still on the car?

It might not be your mounts at all...I thought that I had a motor mount problem, but it turned out to be a leaky front strut. It caused my wheel to jump like crazy. Changed my strut and it was all good after that.

wouldn't a leaking strut make your suspension bounce with aftermarket lowering springs though, so you would know if you had a leaking/blown strut, because it wouldn't be able to properly dampen your high spring rate such as my eibachs, so I know it's not those, cause my handling would be crap if I had a leaky strut...

rear wheel hop

I had a BMW 325 that could hop crazy bad.
I believe it has a lot to do with everything mentioned, but one more thing..

The 1st gear ratio, my beamer would only go up to 40kph tops in 1st. Thus when dumping the clutch at 4k the tires are not spinning wildly, just a bit more than the speed of the vehicle.

If our Maximas (stick) ran to 70kph in 1st, then the tires would spin faster at first acceleration (and a given rpm), and be less likely to hop. The hop is amplified by a 'tractor like' first gear. Our cars are not bad, many are worse (like my beamer!!)....

So, to a degree we are stuck with it. It's just a matter of finding out if it's more than normal. (and any rain 'tromp' is going to produce a funky loss of traction, giving a variety of feed back)

I enjoy 'giving it' in a controlled manner(only as much as the wheels can take with out breaking loose). Rather that spinning in 1st, take of as fast as you can without breaking loose! It takes people by supprise, quieter, etc. It can even teach better controll of the vehicle in extream environments... you get a better feel for 'cut out'.

On the 'edge' the gas is not an 'on' / 'off' button, it's millimeters.. 'cause that's all you can do and stay on the road!!
