My own "Project Maxima" starts tomorrow!

Hey Everyone!
Just thought I'd share with ya the work me and a couple friends will be starting tomorrow morning. I've had a couple issues with my maxima and now got all new parts to resolve the problems and improve performance and stopping power.

New driver's and passenger's side axles from Raxles
New WarpSpeed 2.5 inch stainless mandrel bent y-pipe
New WarpSpeed high flow cat (2.5 inch in/out)
New Warpspeed b-pipe w/ resonator (2.5 inch in/out)
New Magnaflow stainless 18 inch long muffler (2.5 inch in/out) w/ 3.5 inch stainless tip welded on
New ACT Stage 2 Clutch (4 puck disc)
New Stillen lightweight aluminum flywheel (5 lbs)
Rebuilt slave cylinder
Rebuilt brake calipers all around
New Brembo slotted rotors on front
New Brembo rotors on back
Ceramic pads all around
Stillen stainless steel brake hoses
All new Bosch & NTK O2 sensors
New front OEM wheel bearings and seals

I'm a beginner mechanic with some experience under me and my friends are at an intermediate level. I've spent almost 3 grand ordering all these parts and waited about almost 2 weeks for everything to arrive and now planned this whole weekend to complete it. I've looked up all the walk throughs and have a haynes manual to help us besides our combined experience. Any advice from anyone about any problems they had with this work would be great!

Thanks and wish us luck! =)

Glad to see you have your priorities straight and don't forget about things like axles, brakes, etc. Have fun with the brake upgrades/exhaust and stuff

Definitely indoors! A nice insulated and heated 3 car garage all by ourselves with air tools at that! No hoist though, will have to do with floor jacks and stands. Weather is actually heating up now...supposed to be mid 40's on Friday and up to 50 on Saturday! Can't wait to take the first test drive out of the garage and on the road!!!

Here's the current status as of midnight last night...after 12 hours of work done so far...

All brakes are removed front and rear
All exhaust is removed from y-pipe to muffler
Front hubs were taken to Nissan to have the new bearings and seals pressed in
Axles were removed
Transmission removed and lightweight flywheel and ACT clutch installed
Flywheel and pressure plate bolts are torqued
Transmission re-installed
Shifter linkage re-installed
Broke passenger ball joint boot - they don't sell just the ball joint and it seems impossible to remove, had to buy entire control arm, that is now replaced after 181 bucks at nissan! =(

Hope to finish by the middle to end of the day today!!! Will post a few pics when it's done...

woah woah woah man. you bought the entire control arm????? obviously you didn't travel to a local parts store. I had to replace my ball joints and I picked up new ones at murray's for $14 a piece. You need a ball joint press though. There is a snap ring that has to come out and then the ball joint can be pressed out. You press the new one in and put a snap ring on it. No need for a control arm. See if you can cancel that order.

Well dang! Oh well though, the new arm is already installed and my dad actually bought me the control arm so no loss here. Man, we were pounding on the ball joint to remove it and it wouldn't budge...we saw and removed that clip too but no go though so we asked the guys at nissan and that's what they said. We figured it was possible to do, but oh well I now have a shiney new black control arm!!! =)

All nissan dealers have a ball joint press. Looks like they took your money. Did you give them the old one?

Project Maxima Complete!

Another status update! We're all done!!! As of 7:30pm last night!!! After 20 hours of work it's all installed. The only problem was bleeding that clutch, we almost bled it completely then we accidently forced air into the lines and had to start all over but didn't know. After another 30 min of bleeding I now have a clutch once again. I can certainly see a big difference in power with the flywheel and exhaust system especially from 4k to 6.5k rpm. It revs so fast too but the clutch is a lil on the harsh side. =)
It engages about a 1/2 inch off the floor and there is no slip...it just grabs. So I have to get used to letting the clutch out quicker rather than easing it in...feels so much smoother that way but once you're going...then it's easy and feels nice and crisp going through the gears. The brakes are awesome! Those stainless lines really do make a firmer pedal feel. Oh btw...I got all new v power plugs in too.
Now a quick question...I had a cel before and pulled the knock sensor code off of it. I changed the knock sensor and still had that code so I just figured I'd wait till I install new o2 sensors. Well all new o2 sensors are installed and still the cel. I didn't reset the computer with the ecu but I had the battery disconnected overnight kinda figured that would do it. Do I need to reset the ecu?
