Headlight Harness Upgrade Install?

I just recently ordered a harness upgrade kit from SWA. This has 3 wires (black, red w/black stripe, and red w/white stripe) and the ones in my car are all black. Can anyone who has done this before weigh in on this? All I need is a little guidance.

I did this before. Use a multimeter or a test light to find the ground, low beam, and high beam wires, then mark them. I wouldnt know which of the 3 wires on the new harness are, what but use youre stock harness as a reference so you dont cross wires. Its real easy to do, just a pain trying to explain it. Does this kit have any relays?

No, It just has the connector for the bulbs and the 3 wires comming from it. Can you still use low watt or stock type bulbs with an upgraded harness?

no this is what you do it's common sense

snip your stock plug and line it up with the new plug. wire the left wire on the new harness to the left wire of the old harness(coming from the car). same with the rest. just make sure it's working right before you seal it up with whatever method you're using (solder, crimp, tape). hi beam, low beam..

I dont see how this is an upgrade if there are no relays.

Thanks,

That was the ace in the hole, I was going to do that but I wanted to check here first.

Maxima10to1,

No, no relays. Now you have me wondering. I ordered it online from SouthwestAutoworks.com.

An upgraded harness uses the stock high and low beam wires to activate the relays, not to power the lights. The heavey gauge wire is fused directly to the positive terminal of the battery. the grounds all go to the chassis. Let me give you a really informative link.
http://www.geocities.com/craigbrace/ Go to the "How To" page then to "Make your own upgraded headlight harness."

This was the first thing I saw when I accessed that particular page. I have a 4th Gen but maybe your right. I'll look into it a little more, Thanks for the info.

"The installation was done on a 3rd generation Maxima, which the photos reflect. Conceptually it will be similar for any other vehicle, except the ground points, and the routing of wires may be different."
